Need VIC Registration - Currently NSW

Hi All,

Kind of stressing at the moment as I think I may need to pay around $1.6k for a rego plate that's from NSW to be registered in VIC. I just bought an $18k car today and didn't research it beforehand.

Has anyone tried this before? The registration plate expires in 1 month and I've only paid $100 deposit. Thinking about cancelling purchase for all the effort that's involved. I also don't really understand the steps.. Is someone able to assist me?

Thanks in advance!

    Register an Interstate Vehicle

    Appointment fee $17.40
    Inspection fee $27.70
    Number plates $34.80

    Motor Vehicle Duty $756.00

    Registration fee $277.70
    Transport Accident Charge $449.00
    Insurance Duty $44.90

The actual cost to transfer from NSW to Victoria is low.

The duty of $18k car, is payable anyway on the purchase.

The rest is registration renewal. ( So if it was Victorian registered car, you would be up for that anyway)

  • Thanks, that's what i checked and i thought it was too high. I was aware of the registration fee.. I just guess I didn't get the car for that good of a price now lol

  • Actually, i just realised, do i still need to do the normal transfer of ownership for this car? Or do i need to transfer and then do the NSW to Vic transfer again?
