Lenovo Support - Carbon X1

Hi guys,

Have any of you guys had issues with getting support from Lenovo? My Carbon X1 1st gen completely busted on me. It will power on but it won't boot. I don't get the start up logo, and after attaching a second monitor to it (via USB) it won't light up. Charging the ultrabook makes it super hot.

I have tried to get some sort of support from them via customer contact (does not support 1st gen X1), call (can't be on the phone waiting for more than 1hr - since only during business hours), warranty ticket (serial number doesn't exist or the issue I am looking for doesn't exist).

Any advice or tips?

I honestly expected Lenovo's to last so much longer, I have only had it for just 3 years now. I don't mind paying for repairs as long as it will work after. Can't really afford to spend ~$1,000 on another laptop.

my workplace had tons of issue with their support, they sent our laptop to someone else and we received theirs.
We have decided to not go with them and go with another brand.

    Good luck with that.

    • I'm not surprised though. They don't have an actual store here, online support is quite limited.

I just wasn't expecting the laptop to die almost exactly 3 years in. I was told they last.

What do you mean they don't support it? Did you buy it overseas?

    • I bought it online. I have tried searching for it and it just pops up a message saying try a different method of contacting us.

I called waited 15mins longer than last time I tried (30mins - work wasn't too pleased), and they were nice about it as they seem to know about the issue already. I know it is a motherboard issue and I have a feeling it'll cost me an arm and a leg to fix it. I'm just waiting for a quote.

      • 3 year is not too old.

If you bought your laptop from their Australian website, try to push them back and ask them to fix it for free according to the Australian Consumer Law. My workplace had to battle with them to have this done. If they say that your laptop is not covered, refer them to https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees…. And ask to speak to one of their manager.

It is also good to ask the name of the person you are talking to, and say that you will report this to ACCC as it is illegal to refuse such service. https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/complaints-problems/make-a…

        • Thanks for that. I have read through a number of the links on the website. It is worth a shot arguing for them to fix it for free. Just waiting for a quote and response to my request now.
