How good is Allianz Comprehensive Car Insurance?

I currently have third party car insurance and I want to convert it into comprehensive car insurance.

I pay $31 per month to Aami and Allianz is offering comprehensive insurance for $53.63 per month with $650 excess while the similar quote with Aami is for $75.

My current car is worth only $4500 so I always had third party insurance.

What is your recommendation for insuring this car and your claim experience with Allianz?

  • For this price of the car. Go Bingle or any other budget insurance company.

    • Budget is more than $53 per month.

Try NRMA online. We have always had Allianz due to reliability, but lately have found better deals on NRMA. Let us know how you go, I am in the same boat with one of cars.

    • How? NRMA is consistently double Allianz…

      • My car insurance was $697 with NRMA and $1050 with Allianz when I got quotes last year

        • Which is the cheapest insurance generally? Bingle?

        • @virhlpool:

I tried all of the online quotes and NRMA was cheapest for me, but bear in mind your car, location, age etc all play a part in the pricing.

        • @nafe: I know, but for me NRMA was 2x the Bingle one. Did you include Bingle in your comparison and was it more expensive than NRMA? I am surprised.

        • @virhlpool:

I had quotes that were 4x the NRMA one. It pays to do some online quoting. Bingle were more expensive for me.

  • My current car is worth only $4500

not worth it. you'll get cents to a dollar after they scrap it.

  • my insurance is $230 a year for 15k car with nrma

    • keen to know how to make this happen. can't even get that price with max no claim bonus and a bumb car.

      • It depends on many other rating factors. The year, make, model of the vehicle, post code, driving history, etc.

      • just put in details and this is what it gives…
mazda2 brand new car, i even had a prang in the last 5 years.
funny enough mine is cheaper than my wifes who has a mazda2 that is 6 years old, and had no prangs.

yes we are lame and both drive mazda2s

I Pay by the month for a 2011 Falcon with NRMA, Agreed value 13k with a $800 excess, comprehensive cover without extras like hire car and no excess windscreen replacement currently $25 per mth or $172 if I was paying in advance

    • $172 for comprehensive?

  • Yes, not a liar, look go to the NRMA online website ask for an online quote then you'll see

I should state that I'm in QLD and car is in a lockup garage in a low crime area

Always ask what they are like when you actually need them, making a claim.
Some are rather difficult to deal with, You and I might know who.

  • Not direct answer, but some interesting background info: Commonwealth Bank offers complimentary travel insurance for credit card owners. Up to a year ago this insurance was issued by Zurich, a year ago Comm Bank changed to Allianz. I am sure that Comm Bank would not select an insurer providing overall poor services.

  • I tried to compare many insurance companies and it works out that woolworths insurance the cheapest one for my conditions (two drivers, no claims, age over 25, car is kept in a carport during nights / carpark during day time). Monthly payments are equally the same parts as yearly payment divided by 12. Moreover they send a $100 gift card in two months time (they stated that after 45 days, but takes a bit more than two months) since the first payment. Don't know how their service though, as likely i haven't had any claims. The customer service is really nice and polite, but if you have some questions then waiting/holding time over the phone is quite long…

Just had a crash and we are with Allianz. Not at fault so no excess to be paid but they are really easy to deal with. Have a baby seat, emailed them receipt for it and a quote for a replacement, 2 days it was approved and I'm waiting for direct deposit to be made. Using an Allianz approved smash repair who just fix the car then send the bill to Allianz after. Only assessed by Allianz people as it is a 5 month old car and checking for write off.
Dealt with Allianz in another prang a few years back when we were with aami and even though we were not at fault aami said we have to pay for hire car so lodge claim through Allianz who provided a car for us. Again easy to deal with, no issues.

    • Stuck to choose between Bingle, Woolworths and Allianz..lol

      • Exactly in the same situation. Did you arrive at a conclusion yet? Please advise.

        • Still sitting on third party insurance. I guess I would go for Bingle.

        • @Tipu: And I just went for Bingle (comprehensive)! haha.. Any suggestion for roadside assistance insurance? Bingle doesn't have that add-on.

        • @virhlpool:

I think Groupon is offering Allianz 1 year roadside for less than $50.

        • @Tipu: How does it compare with NRMA? Any idea?

  • You don't really know how good they are until you make an at fault claim, then they sharpen their pitchforks and show their true colours.
