Advice Please ~ Looking for a Gaming Headset, Budget $100

I am planning to buy my adult son a Gaming Headset for PC with inbuilt microphone for his birthday. My budget is flexible but somewhere around $100. I have no idea about these things, and was hoping that some gamers here could recommend the best headset for my money. Thanks in advance.

Razer Kraken 7.1 Chroma RGB USB Gaming Headset around you can get around 130, great mic great 7.1 sound but a bit uncomfy and tight on the ears but worth it.

honestly id stay away from razer , their build quality has gone downhill
i just got a audio technica ath PDG1 for 150$ from jb very comfy

      • ?? i have it and its awesome.

    • My biggest issue with the Kraken was that there were no hardware volume controls. You have to change the volume through software only. I ended up with a Corsair Rpator instead… and next to my Blackwidow, Deathstalker and Naga it just looks so out of pace :\

Kingston HyperX Cloud Core Gaming Headset. Its probably around $65 plus shipping

HyperX Cloud 2 is slightly bigger but with a 7.1 surround usb dongle and a pair of velour earpads (think sponge) that help with sweaty ears. It costs ~$130 plus shipping

HyperX Cloud 1 are a bit harder to find, dont have a 7.1 surround usb, but DO have the extra velour earpads. This one costs around $110 plus shipping.

Personally I think the Cloud 1 are the sweet spot, if he doesnt like the leatherette pads, he can switch em to the velour ones.

There is also ebay, but your mileage may vary on quality and I'm probably expecting you want that feeling when your kid unwraps his NEW product

(I only mentioned ebay because I saw a new Kingston Hyperx Cloud II on sale that ended at 2pm today :P http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Kingston-Hyperx-Cloud-II-/2220155…)

    • I agree but with my personal preference being the Kingston HyperX Cloud II.

The HyperX Cloud II has the same earpad options as the Cloud 1 - both leatherette and velour pads. It has better reviews than the HyperX Cloud 1. If you can find stock locally, MSY sells the Cloud II for $119.

When my brother's Turtle Beach headset broke he received the HyperX Cloud II for Christmas and he's been very pleased with them. They don't put too much pressure on your head so you can wear them for hours without getting sore, unlike other gaming headsets I've tried. In comparison to what other options there are for a similar cost, the HyperX Cloud II is very good for the price and it's what I'll be buying next.

  • I have a Corsair Raptor. Nothing special, but really good value for money.

  • Does he listen to music?

Go for an Audio Technica or Sennheiser gaming headset. They're probably the best brands in the gaming market.

I think it's really nice that you buy your grown up son things like this. My dad buys me clothes that I don't want.

  • Oldschool gamer here, there are so many new brands I cant really comment on many. Ive stayed away from Razer them since they came out, not sure about Audio Technica aside from they have a great name..Sennheiser,do gaming headsets.. For music great but I would need to try to be convinced for gaming. When I was younger I went through 8 headsets in a year because they broke easy and didnt work well. Then I found one of my best bargains in life in a stVincents, it was a Plantronics headset. It lasted for about 3.5 years. I cant recommend their Rig gear because the connection gets flimsy but for cheap to mid range gaming headsets I would never hesitate going these guys. I did a quick search and saw one on ebgames https://ebgames.com.au/pc-201666-Plantronics-GameCom-788-PC-…

    Hope thats helps.

  • Agree with above, my friends and I have gone through multiple Razer products including headphones, keyboards and mice. They look cool and work for a bit but then break after a year of use. I personally prefer Logitech and still have my keyboard/mouse that I bought from OZB 4 years ago.

I'm currently using Logitech G930 wireless headsets, while they may be 'cheap' feeling compared to its competitors, it works really well and has a great microphone. Also comfortable and long-lasting battery.

My Logitech g430's haven't skipped a beat. The mesh ear cups are much more comfortable than Plantronics 780's (I started sweating immediately in those) and the comparable Razer's at the time were analog combined 3.5mm jack which I wasn't sure would work on my desktop (they would have on my laptop at least).
