  • Not bad.. Any good 40" smart tv with price below $700? Not UHD, of course. Cheers

      You can't look for yourself?

Great idea, I will check immediately!

are these any good as a computer monitor?

    • -1

Lol… the content will be too small on the screen.

      • No, it won't. It'll be like 4 24" 1080p displays.

        • Yes technically speaking should be so. But
Would you put it on your desk and in front of you? Multitasking?

          @m2000:
I've considered it, but haven't gone so far as to test run a tv on my desk.
In my case, more efficient single tasking. I'm a designer and a single 27" monitor doesn't provide enough working space for me, and it's not possible to get multiple monitors colour matched, so a giant single display seems like a good idea, assuming TVs can be fairly accurately calibrated.

        • @TheContact: No, not really.
They can, but the back lighting is often the downfall. LED are still LCD, the light from behind can be patchy (is covered in detailed reviews of screens).

          @m2000:
          I use a 47" 4k TV as a monitor. I sit between 1-2 arm lengths away.

My needs are extremely well suited to using a TV as a monitor, however.

My workflow is constructed around a tiling window manager, so all windows on a particular virtual desktop are visible at once. When I was still using dual FHD monitors, every window I needed open wouldn't fit on two FHD displays, so I'd be switching between multiple virtual desktops for a given task.

With the 4k TV, every virtual desktop is now big enough to fit every window I need open for a particular task. I can reference 4 browser windows at once, and still have half the screen left over. This means each virtual desktop can now be dedicated to one task, so I can simply switch between tasks by switching between virtual desktops, and get a workspace where every window is in exactly the place I expect it to be.

Switching to a 4k TV gave me an unexpectedly large reduction in cognitive load. I can dive in and out of tasks much faster, because I don't have to spend any time reorienting myself in workspaces.

        • @wazanfds:
I've always thought this. You've just given me an excuse to buy a 4k TV.

        • @wazanfds: ARe you jebus?

      • You can choose what resolution you want, so you could play games on 4k if you liked as long as you have the hardware.

      • I use a Philips uhd 40" at work (software development) and it's fine.

Fantastic, I have a 41.5" Dick Smith UHD TV as a monitor, runs really well at 60Hz. Just scale the GUI on Windows and it looks amazing.

      • this one is 49" so should be fine (without scaling the GUI…
May I ask what you normally do with this set-up?

        • You'll most likely still need to scale it, it's tiny unscaled. I have pretty good vision and I needed to get quite close to see anything. I mostly play games (Have to run the more demanding games at 1080p due to my shitty GTX 960) but still looks good. Games that I can run at 4k (Rocket league, CS GO) look amazing.

Just log in to tell u this: save ur self all trouble regarding to hdmi 2.0 and chroma and graphic card compatiple, have a look at the philips bdm4065uc 40 inch 4k monitor instead https://www.google.com.au/search?q=philips+bdm4065uc+40+inch…

      • That's what I use at work for software development. Not a bad screen and don't have to scale, just that it's reflective so not that good if there's too much light and the corners of the screen are a bit dull so that is kinda annoying. Screen real estate is amazing though. You can have 8-10 pages of a word document on screen at the same time perfectly readable.

    • God no.

    Only two HDMI ports?

    • Yep that's standard across the LG UHD range (well the ones I've looked at). It's pretty crazy and I reckon they would lose a ton of sales because of it. (I ended up with Samsung instead of LG purely based on this)

      • Yeah this TV is so tempting but the only thing holding me back is the fact there's only 2 HDMI ports. :/

    • -1

Was about to comment the same thing. 2 HDMI Port is awful.

    • 3 is handy but not really needed if the TV Already has smart features like Netflix and apps, most people will have a connected device that has extra hdmi slots you can use :)

      • I need four. Foxtel, PS4, Nexus Player, Wii U.

Because of this TVs size you'd be unlikely to see a difference between 1080p and 4K when watching from 2-3m away. However as the price is around the same as you'd pay for Full HD it's still a pretty good deal. Best use would be as a computer monitor though as then you'd definitely see a difference.

    • +1

Yeah, pretty much. I am using the Sony 65X8500 sitting 3.5m away. UHD content is probably like 10% - 17% sharper comparing to FHD and there is definitely no way you can see single pixel even it's FHD.

55 inch should be the the minimum size for 4K TV really; unless of course you are using it as a computer monitor. That's a different story.

  • Shame about only 2 HDMI ports on LG's range.
Their Smart TV package (WebOS 2.0 + magic remote) is the best solution out of the box of the lot in my opinion.

  • Great catch, thanks OP.

  • Damn my Seiki SE39UY04 just died yesterday after 2 and a half years. It was a 39 inch 4k monitor and it seemed just about the right size for my computer monitor. Not sure if a 49" would be too large for a computer monitor or not?

    • Go in store to investigate :), this deal is on for a few days yet

    • You might wanna check out the Philips 40" uhd monitor.

  • Hi Ozbargainers,
I have Kogan Agora 4K 55" Led UHD (3D) TV & I'm having issues with the Seagate Wireless Plus 1TB,which I was recommended by Kogan & JB Hi Fi.
I can't work out how to reformat the Seagate HDD to record T.V. & Internet.
Anyone out there have any ideas? Seagate says that it should be reformatted on Windows 7.
Kogan are getting their Senior Sales Manager to check it out for Me.
I know that it has to be Externally powered & no other Wireless Devices connected for internet connection.
Thanks to everyone for your assistance.
