Hiring a Car in Japan

hi,

going back for a 2 week holiday and am wanting to hire a car.

what is the cheapest option?

just need a compact for 1 adult + 3 kids.

thanks

p.s. I lived in Japan for 4 years but had owned a car or had a company car and don't want to rely solely on trains.

  • Which city in Japan are you renting car from? are you returning at the same place?

      Thanks cheap.

      • I see what you did there ;)

  • As you have lived there before you'll know parking may be an issue unless you are staying with friends and family with parking spots. I would be more inclined to train it everywhere and take short taxi trips. If you speak Japanese well enough and want to take a day trip you may be better off just hiring one for the day but wait til you get there and try a local travel agent. I got the best deals at local travel agencies.

    • -hiring a car for a day from local hirer in japan can be extremely costly.
-catching taxis can be extremely costly (I once paid $350 for a half hour taxi ride from Narita airport to Ichikawa city - it was 2am and I was too exhausted to get a hotel)

nah, car is the way to go.
