Hiring a Car in Japan

hi,

going back for a 2 week holiday and am wanting to hire a car.

what is the cheapest option?

just need a compact for 1 adult + 3 kids.

p.s. I lived in Japan for 4 years but had owned a car or had a company car and don't want to rely solely on trains.

As you have lived there before you'll know parking may be an issue unless you are staying with friends and family with parking spots. I would be more inclined to train it everywhere and take short taxi trips. If you speak Japanese well enough and want to take a day trip you may be better off just hiring one for the day but wait til you get there and try a local travel agent. I got the best deals at local travel agencies.

  -hiring a car for a day from local hirer in japan can be extremely costly.
  -catching taxis can be extremely costly (I once paid $350 for a half hour taxi ride from Narita airport to Ichikawa city - it was 2am and I was too exhausted to get a hotel)
