I am looking for a dog door for a sliding glass laundry door… i had a pro come out, but he quoted almost $500, saying he needed to replace the glass to be able to install it. Has anyone had this done??

Depends on the type of glass, if safety glass it can be impossible/dangerous to cut in situ. Try another quote.
It also depends whether you need it lockable, I made a plywood, door length section that fitted in between frame and sliding door with the dog door in it, easy to make and less than ten bucks of scrap timber if you or any rellies are handy with tools. I have seen a commercial version in metal that did this same job so suggest you look around for it and ask local pet-store to look in catalogues.
