Getting around Sydney CBD (Family of 3 Including a Toddler) + Any Suggestions on What to Do?

Hi

We're a family of 3 (including a toddler who is about 2 yrs old) traveling to Sydney for a 4-day holiday. I noticed the CBD Free Shuttle 555 is no longer operating because they're building a new tram line. How should we get around the CBD? What are the things that we can do while we're here (already got wild life Sydney Zoo and Sea Life Sydney Aquarium on our list)?

Thank you all!

  • Ideas here and FAQ here

tbh everything you will visit will be on the top end of town anyway. So just walk, and group things together.

Child is <4 so he travels free. Otherwise just use opal.

  • Strollers.
Train station. Zoo and Aquarium - walking distance - sightseeing on the way would be ok.

Buy an Opal card for each Adult, you can travel on all Sydney Buses, Trains, Light Rail and Ferries using a single card. Sydney CBD is easily navigated using public transport.

There is a daily cap of $15 on an adult card, on Sunday's it is capped at $2.50.

You can purchase an Opal card from the Transport NSW shop at Central Station or any number of retailers such as 7Eleven, Convenience Stores, Woolworths etc.

  • Sydney is quite a walkable city if you're generally fit. You can easily peg it from Broadway all the way to Circular Quay (or even Milson's Point across the Bridge) with a slight detour to Darling Harbour. It will make a nice full day out for sightseeing and will likely tire your toddler out by the end of it, despite sitting in a stroller for the entire journey.

I recommend jumping on a ferry at some point - either from Darling Harbour or Circular Quay and taking a trip to Milson's Point or Manly.

Hi There, Generally you can purchase a 5 attraction pass online for The Sydney Aquarium, Wildlife, Madame Tussauds, Sydney Tower Eye and Manly Aquarium. You can do the 4 attractions in Sydney on the same day or save 2 for one and 2 for another day. Manly aquarium was average but if you wish to go the the beach after then its something to do. Plus your toddler would like the ferry ride. I have my sister and her kids over for xmas and its really up to you if you don't mind walking you can do alot of sightseeing etc.

Also the Australian Museum and the MCA.
