if an announcement is a bargain, is it not a deal ?

        • You can't have things that are permanently a bargain?

    • +9

      announcements belong in the forums…

      So do your repetitive posts……..

15% is a bargain no matter how you look at it but report the past away like you have already.

15% is a bargain no matter how you look at

nope, it's just a price drop with no end date, not a bargain…

      • +1

gotta agree with jv on this one.
a "permanent bargain" would just be regular price ?
so what we have here is a drop in the regular price..i.e. an announcement of the new price rather than limited offer of a lower price.
otherwise why do we not constantly see posts about coles's "cheaper everyday" bargains etc.
i think a lot of ppl just auto-hate on jv even when he has a good point.

    • So according to JV, any deal that is publicly advertised is not a bargain, lol. That is even funnier then the time JV claimed a deal wasn't a deal because a search brought up a deal with the same price, ignoring the fact it was the same deal lol.

        I didn't say that…

I said this post is an announcement and not a bargain. I made no reference to advertising or real bargains…

jv belongs at 4chan. You'd give some of those trolls a run for their money

    Thanks for posting OP.

Based on this bargain, i'll be even more inclined to utilise Uber

  • wheres a drop for sydney though?

    • -5

      yeah… come on sydney!

  • So is JV an employee of ozbargain ?

    • +8

      Would you employee Jv?

      • if i owned a website that made money by the amount of time people spend on my websites, i probably would.
for the people here just looking at deals, wouldnt know JV
for the people that create deals and comment on deals, seeing JV's comments pissing you off make you spend more time on ozbargain by commenting!

@nocure: Really enjoying this block commenter feature. Means you don't have to worry about reading jv's completely useless and unfunny remarks.

        • +1

@vetopower: Where is this feature? I want one!

Also, would be good to see if there are stats on how many people have blocked jv as a commenter.

  • Got an email for a 20% drop in Brisbane.

  • Are they reliable for midnight pickups at Perth airport?

    • +2

      usually they're 24 hours..

    • Usually yes. I have had one bad experience though, walked out of Perth airport about 1am and there was a Falcon sedan waiting, found the guy and loaded our luggage in. The car and driver absolutely stank of BO (gross). A few mins goes by and the car won't start. Click click click… the car ran on LPG.

He apologised and said "this has never happened before", then he unloaded all our bags. The next closest Uber was about 16 minutes away and we were tired so just ended up getting into a Taxi.

That's the worst ever experience I've had with Uber, every other time it has been wonderful and I still use the service regularly.

      • +1

I hope you rated him accordingly.

        • Didn't get the option since the driver cancelled the trip before we moved off :(

        • @bonezAU:

          You can make a complaint.

  • +1

Nice drop but just beware of that surge pricing though. Prices during those times are insane, better off taking a cab.

    • Never used uber…..

Do you get to know price first? Is it metered?
How do you know they are cheaper than a normal cab?

      • +1

They tell you the price multiplier before you book it, and if it's particularly high (more than double) they make you type in the multiplier you'll pay before they'll book it for you. The people who end up with $400 uber bills on NYE have only themselves to blame, even if a 7x multiplier is ridiculous (it's automated and varies based on demand).

Usually the only time you see surge pricing in Perth is between midnight and 1am on Friday & Saturday nights, or in the half hour directly after a big event finishes.

        • There is such 'chatter' that they're cheap that people somehow think that 7x uber is cheaper than a Cab. People would stop complaining if it said this trip will be 3x more than you would pay in a Taxi. But why would they do that, they would make much less money.

    • Good luck finding a cab that will even pick you up in peak time.

  • +3

With Uber rates already so low, drivers are already leaving , which will make time waiting for a ride that much longer

    • +1

Never have an issue waiting for an Uber in Perth, mostly less than 5 minutes and never more than 10.

      • +1

Any change like this will take some weeks to filter through, drivers will take a while to realise that after they pay the running costs for their vehicle they're making less than stacking shelves at Woolies. Drivers are still pretty keen because there's still a stead stream of new ones trying it out for the first time, and they're not properly accounting for their running costs or opportunity costs.

        • As an Uber driver in Sydney, this is a real concern for me. It is not at lucrative as one might imagine. There are costs even for an Uber driver. These include fuel, botted water, mints, cleaning, slightly higher rideshare insurance only provided by NRMA at this point in time, car servicing and repairs. I certainly wouldn't be excited about driving full time.

    I like UBER very much.

  • I love uber had a few bad ones but had some bad cabbies too. I dont have a issue with the price or service, I want it to well on oz, but i see it already loosing momentum. It makes planning a nite out easier.
