does anyone knows where to get a good deal on a Tennis Racquet?
I dont mind if it's used, as long as it's a good quality raquet.

Aldi recently had a sale during the Open, where they were selling Crane Sports (Aldi's brand) racquets for $60. Very light, well strung. I doubt it will be on sale until next January.

Another alternative is to get one from cash converters and get it restrung. My local one had some very expensive frames for very cheap, they just needed a restring. Just remember to negotiate with them.

    • Great post Neil especially in regards to cashies. My mate often can find a decent guitar on the cheap rather than dishing out for new one (say if someone is keen to learn but you're unsure how commited they are).

  • Maybe look at ebay to see if there are any good racquets going cheap… Fantastic options given by Neil… A great idea to get a great frame and then just restring it…

Restringing a racquet costs (for good quality string) around the $45 mark. So if you get a frame for $100 that would normally be in excess of $200 then you have saved yourself some dosh right there.

  • Is it really that good?
Compared to a dunlop aerogel 300 or something you can buy for $100 sligthly used?

    • I've played with expensive racquets and cheap racquets, and it doesn't make a big impact on my game. Having a freshly strung racquet over one that hasn't been restrung in a while can make a difference on ease of shot placement and racquet vibration. It also important to have a comfy grip (bought one from Kmart) which also can alleviate blisters, vibration and sweat on the handle. The more expensive racquets usually use lighter materials and thus lighter frames. I suppose this is helpful at easing the tiredness of your arms and maybe faster swings.

The most important thing I find that affects my game is the balls. Always get good quality, pressurised balls, and replace them after a few sessions. I'm always amazed at seeing people on the courts with great racquets yet they are using very old tennis balls.

Let us know what you get.
