Help me negotiate a good price for a Honda HRV VtI on Monday!!!!

Guys I moved to HObart recently frm the states and am now looking for a car.
Finally its down to the HRV and the Subaru XV.

The HRV has some good safety features and on Monday its the lst day for a special deal which adds 2 year manufacturer warranty on it making it a 5 yr warranty and youb get 5 year road side assistance too.

The recommended drive away price for my postal code for an automatic HRV is $26990…Obviously my local dealer has gone nuts and added some crappy price near to $28000.

So I want to walk in Monday and negotiate like a boss (atleast want to lol). If I get it for my price well and good else no worries.

Please give me tips and tell me price I should get it at….Thanks in advance mates!!!

Ok that's gonna have an effect on possible negotiation, obviously they know you can't just go down the road and buy from a competitor.

That said, Honda haven't sold many of these so that's an advantage.

Be firm, say you're ready to buy. Don't ask for their best price (they'll roll their eyes), it's up to you to make the offer. Be prepared to buy at that price and let them know that.
Don't be afraid to put through a written offer at what you want especially as you are definitely a buyer.

      Good luck :)

      • Wow….So please give me some additional tips…if $26990 is the driveaway prices…whats a decent price to get it at.
I can and will go to Launceston if necessary,

        • I don't know their margins so I can't help sorry :/

Some of our cars, the advertised price is actually a loss and so there's no room to negotiate. Some $40k cars have less than $1k movement.
(By loss I mean after dealership loads etc before someone attacks what I'm saying)

I'd say offer $2k less with floor mats. All depends what accessories you want, and if it's a metallic paint.

But work on $2k less, don't be surprised if you have to come up

        • @Spackbace: Ok got it…thanks and I appreciate the input.

@Spackbace: What is the average salary of a sales men? I remember the guy who I bought from claimed he earned $100k and his two kids went to a $23k a year school.

@GameChanger: depend on what his wife does. whatever it is, not from his $100k salary being able to send 2 kids @ $23k each in private school.

      • how likely OP can get a better deal end of quarter?

        • End of month is same as end of quarter

  • All depends what accessories you want, and if it's a metallic paint.

Isn't the accessories where they make all the money? Meaning the base model might be a loss but then you get the customer to pay idiotic markups for metallic paint, wheels, entertainment systems, roof racks etc.

That's my impression, likely nothin much to do with reality of course.

You can always look for dealers interstate. I know of few that will even pay for your one way airfare. Make sure you check with few others all they have to do is make a delivery to Hobart instead of Brisbane or Syd.
    Good luck

    • Very nice video bhai..thanks Mate!

  • Just loved the video. Dealer offered me $19K trade in on my Merc., I sold it on Carsales for… $35K cash, called the dealer told him the good news and bought new car elsewhere.

    • Lol good on yamate…you sure gave him a BURN!

  • I ended up going to Hertz and buying a nice used car for now….The Honda dealership was utter douche….no wonder Honda was so big in the States and here its not even top 10.

  • Bought an ex rental, really…

Selling trade in privately is a must, seems dealers want to give nix for trade and and stuff all off new one, then confuse by going on about change over figure.

    So..
buy last couple days of month
    have no trade
    play dealer off dealer
have finance in place if required
walk if offer not good enough
