  • Great find, RankArena aren't such a bad brand & that's certainly a huge bargain price!

  • Thanks to the poster - i was waiting for a bargain 32" full HD set, good find as sean above said

  • Addendum: Seems to be nationwide and also goes on sale Thursday for 5 days, i doubt they'll last that long though.

This exact model was available for $549 back in January. It is only $50 drop after 2 months, not so great in my eyes (probably better value at $549 if bought few months ago).

How is it better value to spend $50 more on a TV 2 months prior? I'm a little confused at that logic… If it was at $549 12 months ago fair enough, but surely you can see the value in getting something for $50 cheaper 2 months later…

        • haha, some people's logic on this site blows me away!

actually come to think of it, this is the internet, so it shouldn't really surprise me..

        • Because you would already had this TV for 2 months. If you haven't noticed, the price of TVs is falling rapidly these days. By your logic if this TV was available for $50 cheaper in 5 months time it would be a GREAT deal even though the price of other TVs would have fallen by much more. Anyway if you can't get what I'm saying - no worries.

          • @Victorious: I get what you mean Victorious, considering how rapidly TVs are falling $50 off in 2 months is not a big deal. There are so many people who paid $500+ more for sets no more than 6 months ago and thought they were getting a good deal back then.

In 2-3 months time I would expect this quality TV to hit about $399 and optimistically, 720p sets to hit $299-349.

Can i use this as a PC monitor?

    • Yes

Mapping issues reported on whirlpool when used as pc monitor.

  • Your better of using an LED TV as a PC monitor as they are better for your eye's at close up! :) you will cook your brain with a normal 32" HD TV as a PC monitor. Your better off getting an LED one! As soon as a 32" LED 3D Monitor or TV come's out i'm buying it.

Don't mean to be nasty, but there's practically no difference between CCFL LCD TVs and LED LCD TVs when talking about close up usage. When talking about edge-lit LED it's even less of a difference.

What will drive people crazy is the resolution of the screen, 1600p vs 1080p v 720p up close makes a big difference. There is a massive quality difference between LCD monitors and LCD TVs though, which is why Dell 30" LCDs are the price they are (several thousand). They use top of the line panels as compared to those found in TVs like this.

Using a CRT TV as a monitor will certainly cook your eyes, though :)

        Good points cyssero.

On the flip side, my 28" Viewsonic LCD monitor doesn't make a good TV.
Connected via HDMI to a HD set top box, the monitor just doesn't look like a good TV.

It comes down to what you use it most for.
Buy this if you need a TV and an occasional PC monitor.
If you buy this TV thinking its a cheap way to get a large PC monitor, then don't even bother buying.

The CCFL emits infrared rays and the bigger the size say 32" the more shoot into your eye's

using a CCFL LCD TV is fine because most people sit a few meters + away from the TV but when your up close using it as a PC monitor your getting a cancer tan. :)

LED emits nothing so its the better option!

The size of the monitor to distance you sit away from it is the key here. Having a 15" to 24" CCFL PC monitor should be ok at 50-60cm's but at 32" you would want to be a good meter or more away to avoid any rays.

But its up to you… General lifestyle, smoking, eating bad foods going out without sun protection some people just dont care! :) But then they are like WHY ME!….

  • how's that work?

i use my Dell 24" as a TV and it's crystal

I'd still prefer the Big W AWA 32" for $396 with 3 year warranty deal. Yes it's only 720p but honestly there's not that much difference. I'd happily take the small resolution hit to get 3 years warranty. (And queue 1080p fanboys………now)

    • id prefer 1080p :)

  • Thanks for the advice guys. Saved me eyes, and neck from likely grief :)

Went for a dell monitor instead.

    Cheers!

  • wtf this is pretty good.. +1

  • Still deciding whether to get Dell u2711 or 32" LCD. My main use is for PC monitor then console gaming. Are 27" and 32" much different in term of size? I've been using dual 22".

    • The Dell looks awesome http://www1.ap.dell.com/au/en/home/monitors/monitor-dell-u27…
Not sure what you'd need 2560 x 1440 (WQHD) resolution for.
The only issue with the Dell is the price.
I would think that due to the $499 VS $1199 price tag, that's why your even contemplating the TV over the monitor.

Looks like your after a large monitor rather than a TV.
The Dell is what you want (unless you don't need 2560 x 1440 (WQHD) resolution).
Then you can get other 27" for cheaper (or a 30" monitors for around the same price)
You just need to save up for it.

  • Brookside (QLD) sales rep today commented that they dont sell this tv, after making a call he said that no stores sell this tv. Ive checked the catalogue and when set on QLD it says they do sell it, pretty weird ay?
