        • @JJkx:

There's so much to see in Kyoto: Nijo Castle, Kiyomizu-dera, Kinkaku-ji (best time to go is when the sun sets), Arashiyama with the train ride, Gion……..You have to spend at least 2 days there. So I would advise you to stick to Tokyo for 5 days now and leave Kyoto till next time.

During your stay in Tokyo, better buy a 3-Day and 2-Day Tokyo Subway ticket with a total cost of 2700 yen. This gives you unlimted travel on Metro for your whole journey! (No JR, but this pass gives you a better coverage in the CBD than JR).

One more thing, install Tokyo Subway Navigationon you phone. It's an offline app that helps you to find your way in Tokyo.

  • Wow! that is some itinerary! Good luck with it and hope you get to do it all! At least have a day for some downtime.

  • Be aware you're going in summer, hopefully it won't be too hot for you as it's at the start that you're going. Otherwise the heat will slow you down. Have fun.

  • can anyone tell me where we can see some ninja stuff or a ninja show? I have a son who is 6 and would love to see something like this in real life. thanks

  • Hi Guys,

Thank you all for sending through your suggestions. I had wonderful stay in Japan and returned 2 days back. Feel free to ask me any question and i will try to answer it. Waiting for next flight deals for JApan…still lots to see..

    Thanks again..

    • Welcome back!

Now that you've been and returned, I'm interested to know which of these tips advice you would rate as the best/so true/must know, and which were not the case at all/not a big deal etc?

      • Almost all of them advised to cut down on itinerary and I did it. This was one of the most useful advice.

    • this is what i need …
      hahaha

      1. where did u get exchange before depart to japan?
      2. have u ever get lost in station? (silly question but im still worried about my trip next month)

      thank you

      • +1

I got some left over JPY from friend who went there last week. And rest I withdrew from Japan Post atm with citibank card.

Yes, I got lost few times at Shinjuku station but it was fun… You need to know which exit you want to take and rest will be easy. People are helpful so can ask anyone if you are lost… I also got lost at Shinagawa station..

        • i have read about citibank card review, which is pretty good rate. can i use citibank in korea as well? i'll visit korea for 10 days and 5 days in japan

          thanks for the fast respond
          have a great day

        • @JJkx: not sure about Korea but I used citi card in NZ, Bali, HK and Japan now.. No issue anywhere no transaction fee or no overseas withdrawal charges..

        • @pyramid: hi…
I was visited citibank yesterday, and the receptionist tell me citibank in japan is closing down. Do u have any issue when in japan?
Is hard to find citibank atm in japan?

          Thank you
          Appreciate it

        • @JJkx: there is no citibank in Japan and it has merged with some local bank and now it's called SMBC. Their atm won't accept Australian cards. So I have used Japan post atm to withdraw money.

        • @pyramid: okay thank you so much…

    • Hi pyramid

Did you end up go to Hakone or Kamakura? Did you stay overnight or day trip with Hakone pass?

Did you travel to Kyoto from Odakyu (I heard jr pass not allowed) or back to Shinjuku to utilise JR pass?

Anyone know is it worth to buy 3 days Hakone Fuji pass and do 3 day-trips from Shinjuku? Or stay 1/2 nights at Hakone and day trip to Kawaguci (is it easy by bus??)

      Thanks

      • I did went to Hakone but it was day trip from Tokyo with Hakone pass. Next day I traveled to Kyoto from Tokyo.

        • Hi pyramid, thanks for quick response.

Hakone pass is valid for 2 consecutive days, isn't it? Did you travel back and forth from Tokyo? Or did you finish all the sightseeing and trips with cable car, ropeway, ship, bus in 1 day?

Did you use JR pass to travel to Kyoto?

          Thanks again

        • @Smaland:yes, hakone pass was valid for 2 days but you can easily finish trip in one day with cable car, rope way, pirate ship, bus etc. I did one day trip. Yes I also got 7 days Jr pass. I traveled Tokyo, kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, Nara, Narita Airport etc using Jr pass. I traveled a lot in that trip.
Day 1: arrived Tokyo in the morning, dropped luggage at airbnb house and out to Tokyo.
          Day 2: tobu world square
          Day 3: hakone
Day 4:in the morning traveled to Osaka and went to aquarium. And went to Kyoto as kyoto was base for next 4 days.
          Day 5: Nara
          Day 6: Hiroshima
          Day 7: kyoto and around.
Day 8: kyoto(startrd day at 6.30).and boarded train to Tokyo around 13.30. And onwards to airport.

        • @pyramid:
          Thanks for the detail mate.

          Couple of questions:
How early did you start from Tokyo for a day trip to Hakone?

I like your idea to go to osaka aquarium first. Did you put your luggages in locker at Osaka station?

          Thanks

        • @Smaland: I started around 7.30. For Osaka, I went to Kyoto accommodation, dropped luggage and went to Osaka. Kyoto accommodation was 5 mins from station. But there are lockers at kyoto station as well.

  • whilst you're in tokyo i can recommend the robot bar restaurant in Shinjuku
