Looking for a Weather Station? Any Reccomendations?

Hey folks i am currently looking for a good weather station! One with all sensors needed?

Price max i hope to be $250

I would like to upload the info to weather underground.

Does any one have any experience with weather stations? can you recommend one? i would like a davis weather station but they cost extreme prices lol

.Rain gauge
.Wind
.Wind direction
.Humidity
.Temp
.PC connectivity
.UV is optional

So i have done a lot of reading and people seem to get problems with most brands! But now days nothing last for ever especially if left in the elements and my area is usually windy so i can see parts wearing out!

I already have a few basic weather stations.

Thank you for your help!

I have a Peet Bros, but the rain and wind sensors both packed it in after 4 or 5 years and like the Davis, the cost to replace is too high. I then had a cheap wireless rain gauge, but it died after a year or two. Now I make do with a wireless thermometer/humidity and an old barometer, plus the rain gauge and windspeed info from my local council weather station that is on the Internet.

    • yea i have a rain gauge now and a little weather station both separate devices they work okay

i would b e happy for it to last 4 or 5 years

  • I started out about 5 years ago with one of the Fine Offset variations from eBay that had a USB output from the base station. I use Cumulus software which uploads to WU and my website. The fine offset lasted a few years before I had the replace it with another but eventually I picked up little used Davis last year.

    • how much was the davis that you bought?
      is it worth the price?

  • It was a Davis Vantage Vue that was a bit over half price of new. It did have a fault in the data logger which was declared that I had to nut out. The Davis units are a little more complex to connect to WU as you do need the data logger cable and some software and a PC that is connected to the net 24/7 to be effective. I use a Asus eeepc net book that just serves as a logger for my weather and solar generation for uploading to WeatherUnderground and PVOutput.org

If you want to bypass the PC connection there is all in one console that wirelessly connects to its base station and then to WU via your wifi connection. They are around the $300 mark. I think they are are a Fine Offset HP1000 but are marketed under different names. Make sure it is a WiFi model as they also market a non Wifi model. This site has a good description of the unit.

    • thanks mate!
do you upload the data to any weather websites?

  • Only to my site and to WU. I use the WU app from my iOS devices but my go to app for a quick summary is PWS Monitor
