Lenovo ThinkPad Carbon X1 Gen 4 vs Carbon X1 Gen 3

Hi,

I am looking to purchase a Lenovo X1 carbon. With regards to this I have the following questions:

  1. For those of you who either have the X1 Gen 3 or the newly released X1 Gen 4, could you give some pros and cons? I am an academic not into gaming. Please comment on build quality as that is the main reason I am buying it. Previous laptops have broken up while traveling.

  2. For the prices that they are on right now (I am looking at the Lenovo web site), which one is a better buy? Looking for i7, IPS screen, 8GB RAM, SSD drive.

  3. When can we expect the X1 Carbon Gen 3 prices to drop? I am looking to purchase in a few weeks.

Thanks for your help.

  • sorry cant help you really i have a gen 1 or 2 not sure which.. all i can say is build is awesome if i could afford to upgrade a would… I have traveled twice all around Europe with it squished in my bag no problems..

    • Thanks.

  • I used to own a Carbon X1 Gen 3, the i5 and QHD touchscreen model. Build quality is solid. Like, really solid. Battery life was okay, around 5-6 hours?

    Pros:
    - Build quality
    - The keyboard, the best.

    Cons:
    - The Fn and Control keys are swapped over. It took some time to get used to it and I didn't really like it.
    - The screen is not too bright. You'd have to turn it up to max to be able to make it as bright as other laptops at their normal screen brightness.

    • Thanks for your thoughts
