Xtremeguard Destroyed My MacBook Air

Do not put these wet screen protectors on a MacBook Air. My 2015 MacBook might as well be thrown in the bin after installing one of these.

    So, you installed it wrong?

No, Drew. The customer is always right. Clearly the product was faulty and OP shouldn't take any personal responsibility for potentially installing it incorrectly. He should contact Xtremeguard, Apple and most likely A Current Affair.

    Okay.

    • My exact reaction.

      • Mine was LOL.

Huh Macs are indestructible, they never get any form of malware, virus , break down have any issues (according to fan bois) so I cannot believe a screen protector can damage a screen. Take it back to apple they'll look at it deny it could happen and give you a new one. If in doubt contact Steve Jobs, He'll verify what Ive said

I believe it's water damage. He probably applied (too much) water to the display, put on the protector and the excess liquid then seeped into the LCD assembly, and fried the circuits. I've seen people do the same to their iphones.

Water damage = = void warranty, so expect to pay a big bill for out of warranty repairs.

I'm not even sure why one needs to apply a screen protector on a clamshell notebook that doesn't have a touch display. I'd understand if it was something like a Surface Pro or a HP Spectre 360.
It's a unneccessary product for those far too paranoid about damaging their devices.

How do you contact a dead person?

      • Ouija board? Take a long time to spell out Xtremeguard though…

        • After playing Saints Row: Gat out of Hell… I aint touching a Ouija board… not unless I have a gun and super powers.

  • Can you elaborate on what happened?

    • Either too much water and screen is fried, or the screen protector has a haze behind it which is normal and goes away after a few days (as per instructions)

  • People who damage phones and laptops from applying a screen protector don't deserve to own such nice tech.

There are a number of sarcastic comments - fair enough this OzB - some are even funny

Despite comments would OP like to share a few more details
Someone might learn from his mistakes &/or you might get some helpful advice on possible repair
    Good luck with it
