Spend $30 on Gillette (& Get 30% off from 2/3-8/3), Get $30 off Your Next Uber Ride @ Woolworths

290

Surprised this hasn't been posted yet.

Was browsing the Woolies catalogue starting Wednesday and noticed Gillette was 30% off. Didn't care.
Noticed Uber's logo right next to Gillette. That caught my attention.

The wording is:

Spend $30 on any Gillette product/s and get a FREE RIDE

Fine print makes it clearer.

  • 30% off promotion from 2/3-8/3 excludes blades
  • "Free Ride" is a voucher capped at $30 (in local currency, i.e. AUD)
  • Voucher valid until 31/5/2016
  • Any unused amount is forfeited (i.e. it is not like credit)
  • Spend must be in one transaction, and claim with proof of purchase must be submitted on gillette.dsynapps.com/enter/ (this link then redirects to a dedicated Facebook page for the promo)
  • Max 1 claim/person
  • Promotion ends 30/4/2016
  • Existing accounts are eligible

Final point in bold is my own conclusion/assumption, based on the fact that there is no exclusion of existing Uber accounts mentioned (unlike many other Uber deals), and the claim form has a section asking if you already have an Uber account.

Basically, the bargain is as follows:
You get free Gillette products by taking advantage of a Gillette/Uber promotion via Woolies. If you think you'll have a $30+ ride with Uber by 31/5/2016, your Gillette products are effectively free. As such, I will put the end date of this deal as the end date of the Gillette/Uber promotion (as opposed to the 30% off Gillette @ Woolies from 2/3-8/3).

Buy some as spares for yourself, husband, boyfriend, best friend, dog, monkey!

Get $30 off your next Uber ride @ Woolies

Bummer if you need a ride to Coles.

  • Great Find! Not a lot of free ride promos out there for existing uber accounts.

"Excludes blades" in fine print. Booo!

I just had a look at their catalogue, I think there'd by a fair case with the ACCC for misleading advertising.
Big 30% off all Gilette (yes a small disclaimer), but with blades and blade information heavily promoted on the page.

      Extremely misleading IMHO.

      • I agree. Fine print way too small especially when the default view of the catalogue when looking online is zoomed-out. It even features an image of a razor blade immediately above and below it.

    • Important point. Added

I think the 'excludes blades' part is just for the 30% off. However if you bought the blades at full price you still should be eligible for the UBER promo.

      • Yea you're right. For a moment you made me think I miscommunicated it by saying blades are excluded from the promo, but I realise I "explained" it right.

30% off promotion from 2/3-8/3 excludes blades

What can you get for $30 that isn't blades? That's a lot of shaving gel.

that said, looks like you could buy the products, upload the receipt for entry, then return them unopened to the shop for refund or credit.

    • Normally wouldn't condone this, but will be telling everyone I know to do it, screw Woolies/Gilette and Uber.

    • Has anyone tried this?

      • I don't see why this wouldn't work. There isn't a straightforward way to "link" it.

Probably best to wait until you receive your Uber code before you refund though.

  • Has anyone done this? Is the code generic?

    • I've uploaded the receipt and submitted the form but that's as far as it's gone

Big tip for much cheaper shaving blades:
Shaver Shop are almost always cheaper than everyone else, get their price and take it to Chemist Warehouse to get 10% off the difference.

    Eg. Gilette Fusion 4pack,
    WW price = 22.50,
    Shaver Shop = $14.95
CW = 20.99, price beat down to $14.35 which is 36% off the WW price.
(Or go to Shaver Shop and keep a small franchise in business)

    • Nice one!

But just keep in mind the "deal" I am trying to highlight here is effectively getting free Gillette products, which in theory is possible if you know you're going to take a $30+ Uber ride by 31 May 2016 anyway.

      • Yep, but thought it was an appropriate thread to give a tip ;-)

Therefore, you're getting $21.85 worth of free Uber on the total deal :-)

        • Nah you're getting $21.85 worth of free Gillette! Cause the Uber you'd be paying $30 for anyway lol but the Gillette stuff that you get for $30ish+ are only "worth" $21.85 using your method

  • Just tried to claim it using the link - it shows this error message: User opted out of platform: The action attempted is disallowed, because the user has opted out of Facebook platform

    Anyone got this?

      • It was in my Junk email

  • Got mine

    • How long did coupon take to arrive after submitting claim online?
