So I have a YouTube video with 1 million views. Anyone want business tips, lol

Surprised to find that a YouTube video I made for fun a few months ago just hit 1 million views. I didn't touch it since it was uploaded and know hardly anything about search engine optimisation, social media etc. Kind of curious how it happened, might offer some insight into successful internet marketing. Anyone have any questions?

Did you have ads running on it?

    • Unfortunately no, its a fan video with some copyrighted content.

  • Get any Youtube partnership offers?

I've had about 4 since mine hit ~200k about 6 years ago and is now around ~500k.

  • Can you provide the link?

So you know nothing about why or how it happened, yet you're wanting to dish out advice on how to do it?

    • If you don't know it, teach it!

    • I'm not claiming to be an expert. A lot of people (such as business owners, artists, musicians etc) struggle to get YouTube views and there may be statistical information about my video (I'm an ordinary person that had zero subscribers) that could help others.

  • Tips?

Well CPM can be anywhere between $2-8 (after youtube takes their cut) - and CPM devalues over time. So you need to weigh up if you can actually make money with the amount of time you can spend on it.

    Did you get paid ?
is that you taking about ? 1 million ? https://youtu.be/PxuN0SzVkII

  • Looks like you inspired this person who got to the front page on reddit 2 months ago and has 3.2mill views.

    • Wow, suddenly I feel small again. There's even articles about it! All I get on Google is a bunch of people reposting my video for views.

  • Since the entire video is based on copyrighted content, it would be a tough one to monetise. See YouTube Help: What kind of content can I monetize?

If you decide to incorporate third-party content in a video, you must clear the rights to use and monetize this content on YouTube.

For videos that contain content you didn't create to be eligible for monetization, you must own all the necessary rights to commercially use all visuals and audio elements belonging to a third party.

  • Hey guys just was given one million dollars a few months ago, was pretty surprised, didn't do anything but now I am rich. Anyone want tips on how to get rich?

EDIT: Would be interested if you were able to consistently get high views on all videos though, thanks Morgan.

  • I see a lot of people monetising Copyrighted Fan content by running a Patreon to get them to produce more fan content.
