Why Do Websites Ask to Enter the Postcode before displaying the Price for the Products?

Just browsing through masters website and it always asks to put in the postcode to display the price , few weeks back I was trying to buy some fairy lights and some other website before it could display the price prompted to enter the postcode. Not sure about others but I find it very annoying , is there a reason why they do this ? Is the price different based on the postcode ? Just wanted your thoughts.. thanks

  • more likely state by state pricing.

survey reasons, tracking of potential customers locations?

  • For the supermarkets, the promotion is by state so that why they asked and they are using this to do analysis(big data analysis)

    • Also, prices do vary state to state. South Australia has more expensive "nation wide" specials when it comes to cans of soft drink, for example, due to the 10c deposit.

  • Right, makes sense now

  • Big data analytics.
