  • Do you pay comparable with Sydney/Melbourne?

    • That would be a recruitment team Q. Id say probably closer to Melb. Remember these are entry/junior level programmer roles.

    • Hobart isn't going to pay Sydney wages

      • Agreed, but you would get a pretty good developer interested in quality of life if you did.
It always surprises me that employers don't try and be more innovative with their offerings in Australia.
I suggest Australia has a small number of rock star developers that could attain mega success in Silicon Valley, but for reasons don't want to go there. You could attract them, with lower total compensation packages in a place like Hobart and have a business with lower costs and attendant advantages.

        • yes, but alot of people wont move to places like hobart, townville etc, because its a one way street. You get retrenched where can you go after that except move again. Currently living that problem first hand.

it is good from a companies point of view, there is little turn over, cheaper rent, but less staff to chose from in the ffirst place everyone being in sydney or melbourne is just a big w*** status in my opinion.

          i would offer relocation bonuses.

        • @unclesnake:

Firm has offices all over Australia but wants to build Hobart as the main dev center. A kind of onshore "offshore" model if you will.
There is a good chance of relocation back to the mainland after a few years here. But right now the focus is on to build up the dev team here.

        • @axlcalvin: I'd love to live in Tassie, cant handle the Queensland heat in old/fat age. Hard work being a middle aged fat programmer in a humid climate. I am going to sweet talk the misses and see what she thinks.

        • @unclesnake: Middle age and fat is no biggie..all of us will get there eventually my friend :)
I also am putting on the pounds but trying to be slimmer. Do try to watch that mate.

Coming to this, why dont you please send me your resume. I will send you a pm.

    • Thanks appreciate it

  • I'd recommend UTAS graduates. Their only IT degree focuses on programming, artificial intelligence and algorithms etc. I can send you details of who to get into contact to find some.

    • Thanks we are already ding this at an official level but I am trying some unofficial channels such as this. You never know where people are looking.
Yes please so send me info. I would appreciate it!

  • I know you said Junior Level but if you have a mid-senior level role I'd be interested. I have a Bachelors in Computer science and over 5 years experience in development.

    • Hey mate where are you based out of?

      • Based in Melbourne but wouldn't mind moving for the right position.

        • Send you a pm cheers!

  • Damn, Wish i knew something.

  • I'm in Melbourne but what are the full details?

    • Let me pm you.

  • 20 years experienced and retrenched…

    • thanks have read a similar post before but didnt see relevance to this thread??

      • Your reference to looking for a "jedi developer". Its one of those dangerous terms that's thrown around the industry. You want the best, but only a junior, which normally means you're hoping to score an amazing developer at a lower rate because they're still trying to get their foot in the door. Not saying that's exactly whats going on in this instance but you're lead developer and you're doing the hiring.

You've placed an ad on a bargain website without mentioning anything about the job except Salesforce is involved and they need to the best of the best without much experience. I'm just saying this because you'd probably get more serious offers from people with some more info.

Definitely flesh out the role description and repost on whirlpool like @holdenmg suggested. You'll get some more serious feedback that way.

        • I am not looking for a jedi developer. I only said its great if you are one lol.

I did send a more detailed job info to the ones that seemed interested. I would not even have knowne about whirlpool jobs if holdmg had not suggested it to me in this thread on your favorite bargain forum. SO that itself is my ROI on this thread. The job has been posted there.

I have not placed a lot of details deliberately. I am sending them in pms.

        • @axlcalvin:
          haha. Fair enough.

PM if you like. Always open to moving for the right role.

        • @oMavericko: I should probably not say pms and use pm's instead LOL..yes sending it to you mate in a PM!
