AVG Antivirus CD

I thought i'd quickly mention this in case anyone has any virus issues down the line.

AVG is offering free "boot disks" that you can download, install to USB/CD and boot to run a virus scanner. Clever viruses these days will disable installations of other virus scanners and/or stop your computer all together. With the boot cd, you can virus scan your whole hard drive without worrying about further infection.

Theres the link, The cd version comes in iso format, meaning you need to burn it to a CD using software. I personally like CDBurnerXP - ignore the name, it works with other windows versions :)

Davo :)

EDIT: both downloads are less than 70mb

F-prot, Kaspersky and Avira also have similar tools like these (antivirus on a burnable iso). Google kaspersky or avira rescue disk for downloads.

  • oh i didnt realise they had already created resuce disks.
    Thanks :)

  • Thanks, Nice work davo.

  • the problem with such boot discs is that they tend to have outdated signatures/programs by the time you need them ;)

so besides making a bootable CD, i would prefer a bootable USB which can be updated/slipstreamed during normal operations.

(Btw, I recommend Imgburn for CD/DVD ripping/burning, as its open source. :) )

    • +1 for imgburn (I actually learn about that on OzBargain :)

Any good program for turning ISO images into bootstable USB keys?

      • BartPE

Unetbootin - designed for linux distributions, but does other iso's too

        Bootmyiso - suggested by pendrivelinux.com

Tried the first 2 successfully, except remember some iso's just dont like being booted off usb, no matter which program you try.

        • Thanks!
