Mac Screen Cracked

Hi,
So ive got a 2014 Macbook pro retina 13inch and not long ago I possibly dropped it and damaged the bottom left causing the left side of my screen to go black and the bottom of my screen to go all weird.. Both about an inch from the edge of the screen. My question is, Im wanting to say perhaps I could change my screen just to fit the screen thats undamaged? Is this possible?

Basically wanting the top menu bar to be viewable as im able to resize screens to fit and the dock I can shove to the right.

    • Seems simple and Their ordering seems handy, $555aud. This broken screen is really starting to grow on me ;)
Ill get something going when i find some money. Thanks for replying

  • They can definitely be replaced. I got mine replaced for about 750 (inc. parts and labour).

    • Half of a new one :P, Ouch!
Places that ive asked have said they dont do them (Even thought their website says they do) or no stock.
DIYing it seems like an option!

      • I had a higher-end MBP ($2,300) so 750 for another couple of years was reasonable. If I only had a $1300, I'd probably just upgrade.

DIYing was too much of a scary option for me.

        • The mac cost me about $1700 when I bought it. Guess $750 isnt to bad, Still damn expensive lesson

  • If the computer is on your house & contents policy your excess to claim may be lower than replacement? Do you have any extended warranty /damage cover with applecare etc?

While I'm not familiar with macs & macbooks nearly all laptops have a video out port , so if at home plug macbook into desktop monitor/tv and clone screen to that device effectively replacing broken screen?

    • Yes, I to just thought of the insurance, Will check it out. Negative with the Apple Care, Never thought id need it :P

Yes, Currently mirroring onto a tv now, Will make do till i get some money!

  • Just go to the Apple store, they can do it in an hour or so.
