Sony Action Cam Charging Indicator Question - Blinking LED

I bought the Sony FDR-X1000V action cam from the recent JBHiFi deal. Just setting it up for the first time, and when I charge the battery via USB into computer the amber charging light blinks. I got the impression from the manual that it should be solid, but there is no reference to the blinking as an error in the troubleshooting section. Just wondering if another owner could confirm whether it is normal to blink while charging or if it should be solid. Thanks.

  • This would indicate that the camera detected an error, that it can't detect the battery. Insert a battery before connecting to a computer and check if it's still unresolved. If the lamp still blinks, our last option would be sending the camera in for repair.

    Light should be solid amber when charging and will go out when fully charged.

  • My charge light stays solid amber until charged, then turns off. The manual does say:

    The REC/access/CHG (Charge) lamp may blink in the following situation:
    * Battery pack is not attached correctly.
    * Battery pack is damaged.

    If the battery terminals are clean (e.g. no protective tape over them), the battery ejection lever locks the battery in place, the camera is switched off and the USB cable is plugged into something that will give decent power, then you may just have a dud battery.

  • Done the above troubleshooting. Looks like it is an error code that the camera is at fault and not charging the batts.. I checked cables, batteries in other compatible devices and are OK.. So I'll take it back to JB tomorrow for a replacement. I'm heading off OS this weekend so hope there's no issues as I've only just opened the packaging.to set it up.

    • Turned out to be faulty. Replacement is fine. Thanks for your comments.

      • Great to hear it got sorted before the weekend. Have an awesome trip!
