The Good Guys Not Honouring Price Guarantee

I purchased a dishwasher for $998, and they gave me a discount and got the deal for $950. The nice looking lady says there is a price guarantee for 30 days. Next day Good Guys ebay came up with the offer of 20% discount. With that discount I would have got the same deal for $798. Went to see the sales person at Good Guys they refer me the link in the website to claim the difference. Submitted all the details and finally they send me and email that they cannot guarantee with their own store and ebay store.

As a customer it doesn't matter where I buy it from. Even if I buy it from ebay store of Good Guys. I will still visit the same store to pick that dishwasher. I am very disappointed with Good Guys.

Any suggestions?

    But it does say:
"*Competitors must be nominated Australian based businesses and exclude eBay."
    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/30-day-price-guarantee

Did you buy from GoodGuys using a Credit Card that included Price Protection as a feature of the Credit Card?

    • Unfortunately I forgot my credit card at my home because of which I use my debit card.
I did submit the claim form from the above link: they reply be with the following response.

"Thank you for submitting a 30 Day Price Guarantee Claim.

Unfortunately your 30 Day Price Guarantee has been declined as our policy excludes The Good Guys own Pricing.

"The 30 Day Price Guarantee does not apply in respect of advertising errors, limited or group buy offers, clearance products, promo code offers, finance offers, prices which include bonus offers, cash backs or discounts whether these are offered directly or via redemption from a supplier or a third party and also excludes items sold on marketplace websites such as eBay , as well as The Good Guys own pricing and any brand it sells for a third party supplier under an agency agreement. The terms and conditions are subject to change."

Please feel free to visit the 30 day price guarantee page for further information.

The promotion is through eBay, they're offering the cash to discount the price. It's like you couldn't price match eBay GG's price in-store (or it would be difficult to do so)

Long story short, GG's eBay store isn't GG's physical store.

Look at their returns policy , return it for a refund then buy it on ebay.

  • Yeah, same thing happened to me. They basically said it was at their discretion on that 30 day price thing. This was almost two years ago before the ebay clause was added. To make it worse, they pushed the sale saying I would get free DVDs on this purchase. But when I got home and went to claim the promotion was over.

Now I will only buy from GG ebay not in store.

I have used the 30 day price guarantee twice and both times the process has been flawless. It is important when relying on these promotions to read and understand the terms and conditions as you should assume that the restrictions will be followed to the letter.

As others have pointed out you do not meet the criteria for the 30 day price guarantee on 3 points

    • The Good Guys own pricing is excluded
    • Ebay marketplace is excluded
    • The price during the eBay promo is not discounted. The full price is still invoiced where you pay 80% and eBay pay 20%
  • Sorry mate you don't meet the Ts & Cs.

Best bet is to try your hand at a full refund.

  • Apart from everything else, a percentage off promo is usually excluded from anyone's price matching

hi Guys, good news is that I went to see the store manager and he gave me a gift card of 100$. the difference if I would have got those 20% off was 150. though he could not do much but still happy with what he offer me.

    Thanks

    • I think The Good Guys gave the gift card in good faith, read my post a little down the page which I believe happens during eBay sale with discount.

  • Hi just to clarify, so if you bought an item from GG ebay store, there is no 30 days price guarantee?

I bought something on GG ebay but now harvey norman is selling it cheaper.

    cheers

  • AFAIK, The Good Guys discount on eBay online purchases is a eBay initiative and the discount is paid by eBay through the PayPal discount.

You'll notice that email correspondence of the order won't show the discount except for PayPal transaction email.

So what I'm trying to say, The Good Guys on eBay don't actually give the discount, eBay does, this is why the stores can't match the eBay prices if discount is applied.

I purchase quite a bit from The Good Guys, but mainly when they have the 20% off through eBay.

  • I've been trying to get a hold of GG on ebay since that 20% off sale. They don't respond to messages, and noone on the Good Guys phone line knows any other way to contact the eBay crew. They haven't sent, nor charged me for the items I purchased. The transaction is in a limbo state where it's confirmed, but not completed. eBay have also stated they don't know anything and can't see the transaction (even though I can pull it up on their website from my account).

    Anyone else had this experience?

    • no idea mate… I would first try the 1300 number and if they didnt respond I will walk in to the nearest store and ask them if you can take the product from them…

  • Got burnt by the good guys ebay store. purchased a washing machine recently from their ebay store, the prices droped by $50 a couple days later, wasn't aware the t&c's excluded the ebay store purchases and after a couple of emails and phone call to the store, was just shut down and told bad luck. Luckily didn't lose that much but still disappointing. Paid by paypal so credit card doesn't cover it as well as paypal purchases are excluded. This was my first time making use of such a policy and will certainly not be buying from the good guys going forward as their service in this matter has been terrible.

    • I have made a successful claim for a purchase made on their eBay store against a JB HiFi price. Are you trying to claim on the 30 day price guarantee against their own pricing as both TTG and TTG eBay store are clearly excluded. Price shield covers TTG but also excludes TTG eBay store.

    • How did you get burnt? You received the item for the price you were willing to pay.

      • Sure, but I also expected that I would be protected by the price guarantee should other competitors have a cheaper price. Finding out that I am not protected simply because I bought my item through their ebay store was a surprise. Wasn't expected and hence I didn't look through their faq and was not mentioned on the individual listing. so I figuratively got 'burnt'

        • Key to any major purchase, stop researching prices after you've paid!

        • @Spackbace: Wasn't actually researching, went online to their website to lodge cashback form and noticed they dropped their prices which then led me to look elsewhere. Its not a huge deal for me as the amount involved in minor ($60) in comparison but just the principle of it. Its good that I did as I now know that their ebay purchases are not covered and nor is the credit card protection going to work as I paid through paypal. I'm sure it will save me money in the future.

  • What really? The customer service rep emailed me saying any items purchased from their eBay store is not covered by the 30 day price guarantee…i am trying to claim against Harvey norman and jb hi Fi who's prices are both lower by 50. The rep emailed me with a link to their website advising of the exclusion and apparently it's also stated on their eBay store.

    • Did you initially make the claim using the online form?

      • yes I did

        • Ok thanks for letting me know. I will go back to the T&C's and see if they have changed since I last used it.

  • i understand how the OP feel. Good guys price guarantee is so misleading and i have learned to just assume they don't have one. I use the 28 degrees one as a backup. Put in a claim through the online form once and they never replied.

  • Just got burnt from the same store buying 65n7 and they drop ~200ish within hours. Bad luck i should say?

  • Can I just ask.. for those who have successfully submitted a GG claim - are you suppose to get a confirmation email that says they have received your claim form immediately? Or will they just send you an email to let you know if your claim was denied/successful after a period of time?

I submitted a claim and I am not sure if it went through.. the page idled and then kind of timed out.. And when I went to resubmit it the error msg 'no goods eligible claim' appeared.. So I have no idea if that means I've already claimed it.. or what?!?!

    Thanks.

  • good guys is the absolute worst for trying to price match etc
