Insure and Go Pre existing conditions

I have just been diagnosed as a diabetic. I did a quote online and disclosed the condition and it said I could get coverage for an additional premium of $55.45. I've read through the General Exclusions in the PDS and I'm worried about this.

c) We will not cover claims if you or any insured person on your policy has in the last 5 years:
suffered from or received medical advice, treatment or medication for:

  • any heart related, blood circulatory or diabetic condition; or
  • any neurological condition (including stroke, brain haemorrhage or epilepsy);
  • any breathing condition;
  • any psychiatric or psychological condition (including anxiety or depression);
  • had treatment or hospital tests for cancer in the last five years; or
  • been referred to or seen by a hospital doctor or surgeon (other than an accident or emergency doctor), or needed inpatient treatment in hospital in the last 12 months.

You must make sure that you tell InsureandGo Travel Insurance about any change in your circumstances that happens after the policy has been issued and before you travel. We have the right to change the conditions of your policy in line with the change of risk.

Does that mean the diabetes is not covered at all?

  • Nope, what they are saying to you is that for an additional $55.45 they will cover you for your diabetes. Otherwise if you choose not to pay this additional amount then the general exclusion for diabetes in the policy will apply to you.

    • I included my partner who also has diabetes in the quote but he had no additional amount. The additional medical premium could have been for my osteoporosis

      • Ok, well double check with them to find out exactly what the additional premium is for. That way you will know for sure what you will be covered for and what you will not.

  • They confirmed in writing that as long as you disclose the pre exisiting conditions you are covered. Now I've read 'You must tell us about any changes that take place between the date you bought your policy and the date you booked a trip any changes to treatment or prescribed medications, including changes in dosages'. I've had 3 medication dosage changes in 3 weeks.
