Telstra Credit - How to force Google account/phone to "reset" to recognise new SIM after swapping?

Hello Ozbargainers,

Not sure if any of you have experienced this.
If it matters, I'm using a Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 (dual-SIM phone).

I was using my own Telstra SIM on Freedom Plus 30, with about $5 left.
I then swapped to a new SIM with $30 also on Freedom Plus. It has now been about 3.5 hours since I changed SIMs.
However, I'm now trying to buy a new app (>$5) whilst using the new SIM. It says "user has insufficient credit". This leads me to believe my phone is thinking that I'm still using my own sim with ~$5 left.

I have tried turning on and off Airplane mode, switching between the two SIMs in my Note 2, signing into Google Wallet and removing some of the older Telstra SIMs from previous payments as payment methods, restarting my phone, using data instead of wifi. Also just to confirm, "Telstra billing" has been activated (it seems like newer SIMs don't have Telstra billing activated by default) over live chat.

How do I force my phone to recognise the $30 in the Telstra SIM that's currently in my phone?

  • Still confirming balance on your old sim? I'd pull out the old SIM, and just have the new one in there. Then restart. On my phone, I need to do ghis to get it to use billing on particular slot.

    • I don't have my old SIM in it anymore. Had it out from the very start. The second SIM I have in there hasn't changed. All I did was swap the SIM in slot 1.

      • If you clear out old telstra billing in wallet, shouldn't you then be able to confirm the correct number is showing in the wallet after activating in your payment options in the play store?

        • So after clearing all previous "Telstra" entries (of which some are simply "Telstra", others are "Telstra" followed by the phone number, e.g. "Telstra 0411222333") a new one appears which just says "Telstra".
However, it still says "user has insufficient credit".

  • +1

    Ok it works now (FINALLY!)

All I've done since my post is..

    • Constantly removed Telstra from payment method in Google Wallet
    • Restart. Still didn't work.
    • Turned off. Remove SIM from SIM slot 2 (after what you mentioned, Gofast, I thought might as well just remove it and see what happens). Moved new $30 SIM into SIM 2 (i.e. SIM 1 is now empty)
    • Switched on, tried to buy app. This time it needed me to "re-verify" my SIM to buy apps, so it tried to send a verification SMS. Kept failling. Switched off.
    • Put SIM back in SIM 1 (i.e. SIM 2 now empty)
    • Switched phone back on. Tried to buy app. Wants to re-verify my SIM for telstra billing. Successful.
    • App was succesfully bought. Yes!

    Done.

    Hope this post helps someone!!
