Motorbike Helmet Cam

Looking for a motorbike helmet cam.

I have a go pro already, but not keen on having it sitting above my helmet, thinking a helmet side mount might be the way to go.
What do you bikers suggest?
Thanks in advance.

  • Im also looking at one to but im not keen on go-pro as i have heard of to many complaints about battery life. I have come across this one from
Tomtom its called Tomtom Bandit ( sorry for some reason my pad wont allow me to copy and paste link )
Harvey Norman have it on special at the moment for $398.00 it does look good and has very good reviews.

    • Thanks.
I thought good thing about go pro was removable battery…..but seems all these type/style of cameras have internal battery

  • I use a Drift Ghost HD - great camera.

    • Any issue with the LCD screen on the side.?
It is easy to operate from on the bike or is it to turn on before getting on bike?

      • I find it easy once you set it up.

I have it mounted on the side of my helmet and can operate the buttons easilly with gloves. You can work out if it is recording from an audible cue or, as I do now, plug in an external power supply and have it set up in DVR mode so it begins recording automatically.

Its worth testing it in different positions before sticking down the mount as wind noise can be an issue if you dont use an accessort microphone.

        • I'm told the contour has an led light to get the level set up, does this have similar ?

  • The missus has a Contour 2, video quality isn't great, eg having trouble identifying number plate of cars in a relatively close distance (more than a car's length), I would not recommend that.

  • Thanks
One of the guys at work suggested the contour, but then also admitted it was basic and wasn't the best. But priced accordingly.
Said something about police using them, but then if quality of video isn't there probably not the one I'd be looking for. Want a bit more than just something to record when I go for a bush hack.

Another suggestion was a Replay, also a cylinder type camera. Though I've not heard of this before.

    • ReplayXD are used a lot in Motorsport. Great cameras, but I can't give any info on battery life.

Maybe look at the Sony Action Cams as well, can link via Wifi to your phone so you can check the view, start recording etc. Also has a simple big button on the back to start and stop the recording - easy to use with gloves etc.

      • Was a good deal for the Sony cam before from on jb hifi with a code. Got lots of votes and comments on ozb, but wasn't seriously looking for helmet cam back then.(already had go pro)

        • I'd check for a secondhand older model and see what's around. They still have FullHD and Wifi etc. Much cheaper option too.

  • How are you guys mourning the camera to the helmet? Is it fixed or with a strap? Do you set up the mount and leave that stuck to helmet?

  • something to consider - police can be fussy with helmet cams article from motor bike mag

  • I'm looking at the replay, but website says 180 days warranty.
I question the Aust consumer laws on only 6 months?
