New Car 3 Years Free Servicing but Charged $324

So, My Mum bought a Skoda and it was due for servicing today and she went ahead and paid $324 for the servicing, when it came with 3 years free service.
Does anyone have any experience in Car Servicing costs know if Free Servicing possibly is not free? Maybe it was a simple mistake as there seems to be so many staff at this large service center. Since neither me or my mum know much about cars, she paid it.

Did you ask them straight up:-

"Excuse me, but I thought all servicing was free for 3 years?"

I hope so and if so what did they say to that?

    • We did question it but the guy said it was the standard cost, possibly not knowing it was part of the deal. I questioned it later with the person in the house who knows more about cars, and its now too late to call so will have to wait til tomorrow.

Did she get it serviced through the service centre attached to the dealer she bought it from?

If not, was the service centre aware of her service agreement? The scheduled service agreements differ from car to car depending on the offers on the table at time of purchase.

  • So…

    • You don't know what was actually invoiced?
    • You knew it came with free servicing, but no one questioned why exactly they were forking out money?
    • You haven't called and asked them about it?

Cmon, give us a lil help here OP! What is on the invoice that you would've been provided with?!

    • Its the standard service it seems. I only came with my mum because she didn't know where the service centre was and she seemed unsurprised about the cost so I didn't question it much. We looked at the original receipt and it includes a fuel card and 3 years free and thinking about it I did ask if it was the standard service cost, he said its usually more. So maybe they just didn't realise that was part of my mums deal. Could be a simple misunderstanding I guess.

      • Again, what was included in the invoice?!

        • It was lots to type out.

You seemed to have issues with the original deal here, but you never confirmed if your car was eligible for the promotion in the first place, maybe it actually wasn't and they sent the fuel card in good faith, but of course you won't get the free servicing.

There's some details of the sale period here.

Maybe you need to find out if the original deal even qualified for the fuel card & servicing.

        Ie, read the conditions:

Offer available on new and demo MY14 and selected MY15 vehicles sold and delivered between 01/01/15 and 31/03/15.

        • It was confirmed at the time of purchase both in writing on original invoice and also by word of mouth. I think something however has gone wrong to do with this possibly, but it is on the invoice. It is also confirmed because at the time, it was purchased by 2 other people, 3 cars were sold amongst friends who wanted the same car.

        • Car was purchased in early feb 2015 so definately elligable, but I do feel theres definately something they have gotten wrong or not put in their computer system. Possibly just an honest mistake. Hopefully will have it sorted or explained tomorrow.

Link to Skoda website, with new car warranty details.
    It states ;
The Škoda New Vehicle Warranty does not cover the costs of routine maintenance of your vehicle. You must pay for:
    (i) Prescribed maintenance and service adjustments to your vehicle and parts or fluids used in connection with these.
(ii) Wheel alignments, wheel balancing and other adjustments relating to normal wear and tear.

Do you think maybe it was capped price servicing?

    • Thats what he said it was, so I stopped questioning it, until we got home and suspicions realising it is part of her deal for 3 years free servicing. Its possible they didnt have that in the computer and it was up to her to mention it, but she didn't as she was in a big rush to leave with peak hour traffic.

      • Yeah we did have some issues, but it was sorted and confirmed. :)

  • skoda care pack
    http://www.skoda.com.au/SiteCollectionDocuments/terms-condit…

    1. What is covered under ŠKODA Care Pack
      bla bla bla
  • Why you (or your mum) paid while it's free ? you guy just has too much spare money :)

    • I don't know either! my mum is extremely stressed in heavy traffic and was in such a rush to go, I assumed she had spoken to my dad about it or I would have asked more questions. We also weren't sure until my dad mentioned it was supposed to be free, hes the one who had all the documentation. So its a bit of a miscommunication inside the family, and possibly a misunderstanding with the service centre which can be cleared up tomorrow.

Why don't you ring up the car salesman who sold you the car and ask, hey I think it's time for its service.
Who do you suggest I book it in with and will it be covered by the free servicing ?

Then say, well, Ive just done that and I was charged. Could you call them and get my money refunded.

    • The service was with the same place the car was bought from. The only service centre in NSW apparently. They called us for the service.

Ring up the car salesman - it's called after sales service.
Get them to make a note on your "account" Free servicing for 3 years.

Sounds like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing at that place.

Had something like this happen to me.. Invoiced for a service where it was included in the car purchase.. Mentioned it on the spot, they fixed it.

It seems to have been resolved already, they admitted it was a mistake and will put the money back into the account. Will wait until its done though.
