BMW 5 Series at Auction

Ok so I've been eyeing out this 'faulty' '08 523i which sold at pickles today. I didn't end up bidding on it but now feel like I missed out. I saw it this morning and it had a note that said 'transmission requires attention'. The car still works/drives but even they didn't know what was wrong.

After testing it out and hopping online searching for similar transmission issues I believe it could've been something with the valve body and wouldn't cost more than 800 to fix, worst case scenario rebuild it for 3k. The vehicle was in good condition, 68k KM's, and it sold for $13,300.

Comparible sales show that it's worth at least 25k.

So what do you think, did I miss out on a good deal or did I save myself from a disaster?

So what do you think, did I miss out on a good deal or did I save myself from a disaster?

You didn't buy it, someone else did, what does it matter?

  • It most likely was a lemon.

Would have cost you $10k to sort all the problems out

  • 523 would be a nugget of a motor, was it optioned out?

  • A relative spent $25k on a gearbox for his 7 series (understandably you're talking a 5 series) and he went through BMW Aust rather than private import from UK.

Thank your lucky stars you didn't buy a problem!

  • Call the bikies, you need that car back!
