I was hoping to get some advice and insight with those who have experienced travel during the end of the year from Sydney to parts of China (in particular Shanghai or Beijing). I am currently on the watch for trends in airfare prices for travel in late November and returning at around 20th December. For the most part I am aware that I should be flying with Southern or Eastern China Airlines, however when is the best time to be booking these tickets and for how much?
Any help would be great!

May I suggest you calculate the cost, flying Air Asia via KL. Although fares have increased recently, melb/ Gold coast to KL is about $200 (each way) + $100-150 KL to HK / Beijing/ Shinzen. Then wait for the Air Asia sale (around June) for a decent discount. Definately the cheapest option, especially if the dates are right. Check "adioso" (search ozbargain).
