Where to get men's shoes?

Hi, i'm after a pair of shoes that fit in the smart casual category. as in, they're leather and black/brown but generally a bit more fashionable than your average work shoes. so for example, they might have no laces.

Besides Myer and David Jones (in Sydney), i don't really know where else to look. does anyone know of any good shoe shops in that vicinity?

If you know your size accurately and your brands then buying online from the US can be a bargain.
    Try these two stores

I've had 2 pairs of good running shoes and dress shoes at about half price (and they weren't even on special).

Customs duty doesn't cut in until about $1000.

    Hope this helps

  • Shoes are probably the only item of clothing that i MUST try on first. sorry.

    • I think his point is if you find one in the shop that you like then you can look for the exact one and exact size on those US sites.

    • I bought a $450 pair of Mark Nason shoes which were like 3 sizes too big (even accounting for US sizes)
      was NOT happy.

  • DFO?

  • How about Rivers? Sometimes they have shoes sale.

    • faint

    • rivers have the most horrible ads
and things that fall apart in a week…

      @@

  • price vicinity? pitt st vicinity? then
Zu, Hype or glue (eg lacoste)… even Ecco occasionally

    • +1 for ecco… love those comfy semi-formal shoes… but they are not cheap :/

  • what size are you?

You know what they say about………. nevermind.

  • what about the place in pitt st mall, acquila shoes? has anyone tried a pair, do you think you get a bang for your buck?

windsor smith? not too expensive either, especially if you go to their DFO

  • I have found that guys tend to have NO IDEA where to buy shoes across the board.
You must pay good money to get good shoes!

Personally I would shop at lloyds (not the bank) the shoe store. They also sell these in David Jones and are a great bargain when they are on sale. A fabulous shoe and wont go out of style!

    What else… ummmm

Well country road copies directly of Zara (IMHO one of the finest stores in the world)…. so they have some good shoes like:
    dessert boots - must have
    military boots - must have
    Business shoes
brown slip-on loafers - great casual with no socks

For smart casual you can also look at lacoste…. or cheap knock offs at Roger David….

I hope I maintained my heterosexuality in this post haha

  • this is a good shop for nice shoes… check it out… two locations… Strand Arcade and Pitt St…near Foot Locker pitt st

    croft shoes…they are great!
buy them from online store. :)
    happy ozbargaining!

    • yep, absolutly, i like shopping onlines

  • oh, btw, where do you guys usually buy shoes from online?

  • ok.. some great suggestions here.

only.. the shoes still seem to come to 1000%(?) more than what the factory in China made them for.

there are too many middle-men.. factory to usa to website to postage to aus.. and the aussie based sites only go so far to compete with the usa sites.. I'm guessing.

i realise reebok won't let themselves be undercut by their own factory selling direct from china.
but.. are there any independent chinese/pakistan/wherever factories selling cheap but stylistic shoes???

sure, i'll only buy running/work shoes from a retail store.. but for having a few extra styles to suit up in I'm willing to take a chance and deal with china direct. (if possible) ??

  • p.s. best shoes i ever bought were while i was driving my french car through Hungary (on my UK passport).. went to a Chinese store and bought a pair of Pakistan made adidas rippoffs.. using my US dollars taken from my latvian bank account.

edit: actually.. i can't find any direct to factory (yet retail and cheap) stores at this stage.. hopefully in future.

    • Vegan Wares is direct. Made in Australia by good old-fashioned shoemakers. I have a couple of pairs purchased years ago and they're outlasting their DJs/Myer-bought peers.

But the upfront cost is higher, and unlike Hush Puppies or Florsheims, you can't just rock up to any local shopping centre to see how they look and fit.

      • some of their stuff looks cool.. unique, sturdy.

and ahh.. their prices DO NOT INC GST.. keep this in mind when browsing

edit: yeah some really cool shoes there.. with ability to customise.
but if i was going to pay that much I'd wanna be in melbourne and in their store

  • thx, good suggestion, and i also find this store, pretty cool and cheap
    http://www.dinodirect.com/womens-sandals/s-103.html

    • your name is DD
      you recommend DinoDirect.
I suppose you may be a representitive?

I had a look.. some very interesting men's casual shoes.. not too bad prices and most/all seem to say 'worldwide free shipping'.

not a bad site at first glance
