With Dick Smith slowly shuting their stores, it might be possible to score some decent IEMS for cheap as they slash the prices. The problem though is stock availability, and the second, they don't seem to cut the prices by that much…

  • I just suck it up and pay $40 for the Apple ones from the Apple store. Had so many bad experiences with fake apple ones (in genuine looking packaging but only lasted a few months) and other sorts too, just easier to get the Apple ones.

    Xiaomi's are great.

But there are fakes selling on eBay as well. I bought 5 from Chinese seller not long ago, abysmal quality and dirt inside the case. Got all the money back with eBay money back guarantee without the need to send the item back :)

I bought the Xiaomi pistons from Mushtato's Ebay store for less than $30 and received them in 3-4 days. The price has increased slightly. Not sure about Shopping square's delivery times because I haven't purchased anything from them. But for the online stores that are overseas, you obviously won't get them within a week. This can be subjective but I don't think there are any "good" earphones sub $15. I've bought lots of cheap ones from different brands, you get what you pay for. If I had to choose the best sounding earphones from all those cheap ones I've owned. It would be the Philips SHE3590, they were decent and didn't sound too bad. They also felt really comfortable. I used them for 11-12 months but one day, the earphone on the right side stopped working. Here's a review on Head-Fi. www.head-fi.org/t/674203/review-philips-she-3590

You can get the white one for $11.95 at Harvey Norman. They're available in other colours but I noticed they cost $14. Not sure why those other colours are $2.05 more than the white one. The 2 letters at the end of the model number represents what colour it is. SHE3590WH (WH= white), SHE3590BL (BL= blue), SHE3590BK (BK= black), etc. There doesn't seem to be any differences besides the color.

If you don't want to spend more than $15, you should get these Philips earphones. But if you're willing to spend a little more money. I'd recommend the Xiaomi pistons (3rd Gen), they're the best sounding earphones you can buy for around $30.

  • As others have said go some Pistons, they're very good for the price. I also have some Sennheiser CX300s which I think were around $35 which I prefer, but finding stock at that price may be difficult (they're listed at ~$70 which is preposterous).
Did you get a refund on the earphones?

  • Before I came in I was going to recommend KSC-75, but I guess it wouldn't be what you want (i.e. in ear headphone/from Australia).
Do you want them to be open design? i.e. Apple EarPods are open design in that you don't plug it inside your ears and sound leaks out/in.

It'd be hard to find one if you want them to be open, only one I could think of that still sells in Australia that's within $30 is MX series by Sennheiser or I'd actually look around facebook or gumtree and buy Apple one second hand (I think they sound alright and I'd actually recommend this over MX series).

If you are looking for those that you plug into your ears, others have already given recommendations.

  • How can you tell which Xiaomi Pistons are real vs fake?

Some of the Pioneer inner ear ones are actually pretty good despite what people think :)

  • Yeah the Australian site https://dblabs.store sells really good ones for $10.
