  • Mine got delivered this morning, its pretty cool with some nice features

  • Anyone know if this can be used as a wifi host for an external HDD to stream to a chromecast? (If I described that correctly?!)
    …for $10 it's worth a try.

  • +1

Thanks for this post. The JB site description made it sound like the power source for another product, so I ignored it.

    • I sort of read it like that as well.. However the device can be used as a backup battery to charge your phone.

But shapers said it was delivered this morning with no complaints plus they provided a product code.

    • odd thing in the description is its listed as a battery.. only one way to find out.

and there is a black or white battery lol

  • Not available online

    • Still available for me?

      • When you go to your cart, it will say:

Sorry, Laser Wi-Fi Hub Back-Up Battery (Black) is no longer available and needs to be removed.

        • Oops youre correct, the white one is still available though

        • @shapers: White - same thing. Not available after you put in cart.

Must have been a pricing error they picked up quickly?

        • +1

@snook: Im still able to checkout with the white,
Nah not pricing error, i think clear just made people realise what it actually is and now its just sold out

    Black out of stock?

Grabbed a white one…gonna take a punt that it can be used with ChromeCast at a hotel.

    Cheers OP :)

  • Sold out :(

Been looking for something like this for an overseas trip. Thanks Clear!

  • Looks like only white left…

  • Thanks OP, got the white one! was too late for the black.

    • Just got mine today and I have to say it is a piece of crap that is not easy to setup or use! I am revoking my +ve for the first time after receiving and testing a product. Way to hard to figure out how to make it work and be useful as a NAS for other computers (that is supposed to work as a "NAS" for desktops as well).

    white available still

seems similar to the Xiaomi wireless adapter that can be found on ebay

    It's just a battery.

    • Did you even read the post or title?

      • -1

Yea, I did. It's just a battery. Nice job misleading people into buying a $10 battery for a product they don't have.

        • Are you sure? What about the part where it can be used as a wireless extender/hotspot and to stream content such as movies from an SD card or USB flashdrive?

  • Well that went quick, 555+ clicks. I'm glad I bought one before posting.

  • All the Laser Deals today

  • Just testing it out now, seems pretty straight forward so far. like the fact that you can use it as a repeater or access point

    • Do you have an Android device?

Does it work with the Alpheus Toaster app (only mentions the iOS app in the user guide)?

      • Yeah, i have a HTC M7.
Yep works with that, you have to connect your phones wifi to the Wifi hub before you can do anything in the app

        • Sweet :)

Don't suppose you have a ChromeCast too?

Would it be pushing the friendship to confirm it works with that too?

        • @kirt: Lol give me 10 mins :)

        • @shapers:

          :)

To be clear, I am wondering if you can plug a USB into the Laser, and access / play files on the ChromeCast.

        • @kirt: Okay so still trying but so far - connecting chromecast to the wifi is easy, viewing files on your phone through an SD card thats plugged into the wifi hub is easy.. just cant find a way to play files from the app on chromecast. trying to find using ES file to search through network but no luck yet either

        • @shapers: Give Allcast a try. It has more functionality than the Chromecast app.

        • @shapers:

Nice work…let us know how you go ;)

        • @Clear: Sweet much better :) Its just the problem of trying to find how to access the usb on somewhere else rather than the toaster app

        • @kirt: At the moment the best i can do is transfer the file to your phone via toaster app and then play it..
          still tryinggg

        • @shapers: When you're trying to play media through the Toaster app, does it prompt you to choose the default media player? If it does you can select the Allcast app.

That's how it works for Sandisk

        • @Clear: Nah thats what i was hoping for, but it opens up within the app and the only option it has listed is to delete lol

        • @shapers: Disappointing. When mine arrives next week I'll give it a go.

        • @Clear: sweet let me know how you go :)

        • @shapers: I can't get it to work for videos either. For text files it'll ask what app I want to use, but for videos it uses it's own player which can't even play it.

Edit: Success… kinda! I don't have a Chromecast near me currently so I can't test it the whole way.

          • I connected to the hotspot on my phone with the USB connected to the laser device
          • Used Fing to grab the IP of the Laser device (10.10.1.1)
          • Used Firefox to navigate to 10.10.1.1
          • Long pressed on the video file and chose "Open With an App"
          • Opened with AllCast

Next it was searching for a player and since I don't have access to a CC currently I can't test.

        • @Clear: Thats awesome good job, I was tryinf to use the IP but wasn't sure how to find it. Think it'll work fine with your method :)

        • @Clear:

Did you try and plug a large size portable USB drive to it? Can it stream 3gig+ MKV file?

  • Got mine today.. charger is 0.2amps apparently. Memory card is quite hard to remove.

  • Any way to use this as a bridge (eg: Xbox -> ethernet -> Laser Hub -> wifi -> modem / router)?
