Are There Any Differences between The 500GB PS4 & 1TB

I'm going to buy a PS4 in april so im trying to see if i should get the 500gb or 1tb and i've seen that apparently the 1tb has older hardware compared to the 500gb and i want to know if this is true, if sony has fixed this or even which model of ps4 is better

Main difference between hardware revisions is power consumption, each revision lowered it, you want the latest revision for least heat and noise. Early 1TB models were produced with the previous hardware revision, but that was over 6 months ago, there is likely 1TB consoles around now that are latest hardware revision. Every retailer will have different age stock, so you simply have to ask the retailer to show you the PS4 box, you want model number CUH-12XX, which is the latest hardware revision, the previous hardware revision was CUH-11XX, and the original PS4 was CUH-10XX. Also you should have just googled your question instead of asking here, the answer I gave you is not hard to come by…

    • thanks for the response, the post was mainly to clarify what i found and if there was anything else.

    500GB.

  • A related question, since there seems to be knowledgeable PS folks here: I had our PS3/500GB replaced with new by insurance. Still unopened in box w/Assassin's Creed & Last of Us. We have a good amount of higher/highest rated games.

Wondering if you think we could get EBgames to swap out the PS3 + games for a PS4 & a couple of games?

Is the PS4 that much better? I'm pretty sure I've heard that it isn't as good a media server as PS3 was…so, pro's/cons?

    Opinions, please.

    Ta!

    • don't trade in with eb games better of selling it on gumtree if ur gonna sell it cause eb games gives like 30% or less of the products value

      • I'd only do the trade if they did as above = PS4 + 2 games.

        So, your opinion?

No way. It's like trading an old 1992 Holden Commodore for a brand-new 2008 Audi R8.

If you were to sell it, a PS3 console would sell for about $80 to $120, with each game varying by age and its availability on the market (be it at EB Games, Gumtree, etc.). EB Games would buy the console at around $50.

Is the PS4 that much better?

Compared to the PS3? In short, yes if you care about gaming.

Some points to consider in regards to the PS4's features:

      • More people will be playing online on the PS4 than the PS3.
      • There's little to no games to be released on the PS3 this year.
      • Looks prettier (but the PS3/Xbox 360 already looks pretty).
      • Play PS4 games on the PS Vita or compatible Sony phones.

To the average joe like me, I'd stay away from the PS4/Xbox One at the moment. All the games I'd want to play are already on last-gen consoles (PS3 and Xbox 360) and there's not enough interesting/different games to tide me over from old to new. Dare I say it - the jump from a PS3 to a PS4 is not that big. It felt bigger if the jump was from a PS2 to a PS3.

What I'm saying is that have fun playing on the PS3 - there's not enough content (for the average joe) to upgrade from the PS3 to the PS4.

  • Thanks for that, Silverrat…I kind of felt like that, too, looking at the current games for PS4. The other issue is that my "kids", as they're getting older, are playing less & less console & more PC. They go back to games they've liked, just for fun. I really don't see them going for the online thing that PS4 is pitching, either.

    I'll just keep my PS3,

    Ta!

    • Get the ps4, it's cheap and it's amazing a lot better than the ps3. since your kids older they will know the difference and all their friends would have ps4.

The reason they going to PC is because they don't have a ps4.

      • I already have the PS3 & may not even open it but sell it off later since they've lost interest anyway.

As far as PC gaming, they prefer it because they have high-end PC's & like Steam, not because they don't have a PS4!

        Cheers
