MedeScan Touchless Thermometer - $51.99 @ Costco (Membership Required)

90

Gone are the days when you had to wake your sick kid up and get them to stay still for a minute to check their temperature. I used to dread having to wake my kid up every couple of hours to check on them.

Using this thermometer, I have been able to save a lot of sleep and hassle. The thermometer readings come-up in a second. The screen color changes between green, orange and red so you know the situation even without having to read the temp. It can readout the temp for you in a few languages too if that is what tickles your fancy :)

I bought this for $99 once and have bought gifts for around $80 for new parents. I think at $51.99 is a real bargain.

Happy Easter!

  • Specifications check out for being accurate:

  • Good price for a brand selling $90-$98 in chemists

And if you want a budget version $27 el cheapo. here. Review is not too bad.

  • Are these touchless ones accurate?

I was thinking of one of the instant ear ones

    • The accuracy was good enough for me. I take a few readings anyway because it is so easy to do.

I didn't get an in ear one because I believe that you need to buy disposable tips.

I wouldn't waste your money on these, or any IR thermometer. If you are going to buy a thermometer, I'd advise buying an underarm thermometer. Even in-ear thermometers get variation due to ear wax, but stll better than IR. I work in emergency and have noted the large discrepancies between IR and underarm temps.

      • yeah was told by GP that ears ones for infants are usually 1/2 a degree off and the forehead ones are usually 1 degree off

        underarm are the most accurate

I have all three and yeah they are all different but do follow what I say above (forehead one is always high)

      • are there any instant/quick read underarm thermometers out there?

can be difficult to get a sick baby to sit still long enough to get a temp using our current underarm thermometer.

I've got this thermometer (bought it a couple years ago from a Day/Night Pharmacy for about $60) and I think it's great. I was skeptical of it's accuracy but it was basically bang on (= or +/- 0.0-0.2) compared to my digital sublingual thermometer. There are considerations (making sure you aim it at the right spot and wiping any sweat off the skin and then waiting to obtain an accurate reading)…

    Covers it pretty well…
