waiting for the posts about a banh mi not being worth $9.

I'm also saddened to see the pricing on these things when a food place try to make them trendy.

Ill oblige….. Wtf banh mi for $9???

      • +1

        yeh ….eff that. 9 dorrar…too much! :P

        also…

We'll be giving out 400 halves of these panko crumbed Spicy Fried Chicken banh mi's!!

….so go knock yourselves out for half a roll :D

    • The closest Banh Mi place to HB is Roll'd (Hardware Ln) which sells them for $7.90-$8.90. So in the same ballpark but slightly more expensive.

wow, do they spread gold in the roll instead of pate?

It's Hardware Lane in the heart of Melbourne which is full of professionals at lunch time. Similar pricing to nearby Guzman y Gomez but if you want to be a tightarse just head to the end and get Maccas.

@neil: Do you have any associated with Hawker Boys? It's not about being a tightarse (you might as well call everyone on here a tightarse. What Ericc is pointing out is the price is so over the top its not even funny.

Yes its in the heart of the CBD so the price would understandable go up a bit but not $4.50/$5 to $9

        • @BigMac:

          I think you misinterpret.

What I'm saying is prices for lunches are dependent on your location. I can get a cheap and great Banh Mi in Victoria Street, Footscray etc. Take for example N. Lee in Collingwood. It costs $5 or so for a Banh Mi where as the CBD costs $7.50 or so.

Hardware Ln tends to be more expensive as I've eaten there a few times (Rolld, G&G, Campari, Big Boy BBQ, Nieuw Amsterdam) and my wallet wasn't happy. Anyway, it's free food. Get the freebie and never go back.

        • @neil:
Nah, it's all about the Don dons.
Quite far from hardware Lane actually.

Cabramatta has banh mi for 2.50. No way these business's survive without marketing to people those people who don't care about spending $9 for a roll.

Everyone always posts it's too much for banh mi but you're paying for the location. Can you get a banh mi for $2.50 in the CBD any where?

    • True. Even my favourite place (in Collingwood) is $5 or so (N. Lee). Their city location is about $7.50 or so.

    • Ah cheers. Have fixed.

  • Just got mine… No queues at all when I got there! Thanks Neil! :)

      Oh… and it was yummy too… :D

  • Got oneā€¦ not a patch on a Nhu Lan roll from my old Footscray hood, but v. quiet when I was there 20 mins ago. Pretty Subway-esque, and don't expect much spicy in your spicy chicken, but nice crispy panko.

  • Why are people trying to make fancy a Vietnamese chicken roll. No Banh Mi me in Sydney mate, it's a chilli chicken roll. Shall I go down to to 7-11 and ask for a Sausage Banh Mi. Fancy Mexican's….
