Xiaomi Redmi 3 or Mi 4c

Hey guys,

Conflicted on which to get:

Xiaomi Redmi 3 with the metal body

Or

Xiaomi Mi 4C with the plastic body but better screen

Also can anyone shed light on which camera performs better?

Thanks lots!

  • Just to confuse things a little more - they just announced a Redmi 3 Pro today (3GB RAM, 32GB memory, fingerprint scanner, slight increase in price, no other changes).

If you care about getting an official global ROM, I don't think the mi4c will ever get one (I believe mi4c stands for mi4china, whereas mi4i is mi4international). The Redmi 3 (or Redmi 3 Pro) has more chance of getting a global ROM, but nothing announced yet - probably won't get a global ROM unless they start selling it in India.

Camera on Redmi 3 looks ok, but not great. Not sure about mi4. You should look at gsmarena reviews for both, there may be camera samples so you can pixel peep.

If I was choosing, I get the Redmi 3 because it's a fair bit more recent, and should have epic battery life (4100mAh battery).

    HTH

    • Pretty sure mi4c is because it has USB-C (according to GSMarena at least).

  • you will probably won't get any of them, because they might be all out of stock.

  • Is flashing the rom on a redmi 3 a massive pain in the arse?

  • +1

everbuying has the Mi4 international version for about $205 best bang for your buck IMO

  • I'm not sure what is better, but you can probably pick up an aluminium case for each phone regardless of which one you get for around US$15.

I wouldn't recommend a metal case though unless you are putting it inside a pouch/case as it basically transfers all the energy when you drop it straight to the screen causing it to crack. It is also better to get a leather case rather than a plastic one, for the same reason outlined in the previous sentence.

When comparing across the phones, just looking at the numbers aren't that helpful. i.e. Mi3 Mi4, doesn't tell you which is better. Furthermore a 13 MP camera on one phone isn't necessarily the same 13 MP camera in another phone. It just seems too confusing. I don't think it matters that much, just get the cheapest one unless you can get a review that compares the photos side by side.

    Summary:

    Xiaomi Redmi 3
    UMTS/HSPA+ (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
    4G LTE (1, 3, 7, 38, 39, 40, 41)
    5-inch HD display
    Snapdragon 616 - Octa Core (8)
    Adreno 405
    4100mAh battery
13MP rear camera with Single LED flash
    5MP front-facing camera
    2GB LPDDR3 RAM (3GB in Pro Model)
16GB internal storage (32GB in Pro Model)

    Xiaomi Mi4c
    UMTS/HSPA+ (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz)
    4G LTE (1, 3, 7, 38, 39, 40, 41)
    5 inch 1080p display
    Snapdragon 808 - Hexa Core (6)
    Adreno 418
    3080 mAh battery
13MP rear camera with Dual LED flash
    5MP front-facing camera
    2,3GB RAM
    16,32GB Storage

After looking at that, you get an extra 3G 900 MHz band and dual led flash on the Mi4c. There is also the Xiaomi Note 3 which is quadband 3G. It has a 5.5 inch screen though.

  • Hi,

    Thoughts on a Redmi 3 Pro (NOT a note 3) and Mi4C?
    I'm thinking of getting the 2GB 16GB Mi4c over the 3 pro.
Thoughts? Currently using 1st gen Moto G.

    Thanks.
