Recommendation for Cheap and Reliable 2.5kW split system aircon for Investment Property (Perth)

Hope to get some help here.
Current aircon in master bedroom, old Mistral unit swinger flap is broken and cannot be replaced as advised by agent's aircon man. Tenant complained it is blowing directly on their head. Hence have to change the whole unit -_- although it is still blowing cold air and just serviced.
Have gotten a few quotes and the cheapest is a 2.5kW Carrier for $1,015 (includes disposal and installation), this contractor advised he got 1 unit at home and it had never have any issues with it since installation until now for nearly 4yrs.
Another contractor when I asked, said Carrier is really bad, and highly recommends a Daikin for $1,639.
Research on reviews of Carrier doesn't reflect very well too, so not sure if I should go with the cheapest brand? Any recommendations and advice will be appreciated.

Also need extra advice, I have got landlord insurance, just wondering if the aircon cost in this case might be claimable? With AAMI.

PS: just got made redundant, so trying to save cost :|

  • You missed out on the ebay 20% off and Fujitsu $150 gift card. Got a 2.5 Fujitsu for $1050 installed.

Fujitsu gift card special may still be going.

If you're seeing bad reviews about carrier, then stay away from it. Go with another brand, which has better reviews.

I'm guessing you can get Fujitsu, Panasonic, Samsung for this price +/- $200. There was some good deals a few weeks ago with the ebay 20% off sale.

I'm sure it's great, but who cares about noise or power consumption in a rental property

Can't claim for a wear and tear loss like this, but you can claim for deliberate damage by the tenant and some policies have 'fusion' cover for motor burnouts due to a power issues. I'm guessing by the time you try to claim against the bond, pay the excess and fill in the paperwork, it wont be worth it for a 1k claim.

See if the installer will give you 3 x $300 invoices for 'repair' as opposed to new installation.

Alternatively, look on gumtree for a 2nd hand unit or parts to fix the existing unit.

  • I just bought two Fujitsu 2.5KW reverse cycle air conditioning for $549 each after ($150 cash back) from Kambo's. It was only one day deal on Easter, And installing it for $350 each.
