Using Prepaid Starter Packs - Porting out on Sunday?

I'm about to switch from my plan to porting in and out using prepaid starter packs. However I'm wondering what happens if you need to port out on a Sunday?

For example: You're on the Amaysim 28 day prepaid starter pack starting from the 2nd of May, this would mean that your 28 days would end on the 29th, which is a Sunday.
Porting hours AFAIK are:

  • Monday to Friday: 08:00 to 20:00 AEST/AEDT
  • Saturdays: 10:00 to 18:00 AEST/AEDT
  • Sundays and selected public holidays: Not available

So what do you do? Port out on Saturday the 28th and forfeit a day or go a day without your service and port out on the 29th? Or is there something I'm missing?

With Amaysim, I think if you turn off auto-renewal it will automatically switch to Pay As You Go plan at the of the Unlimited Plan's 28 days. You won't be totally out of service, just on pay as you go rates. If you can't afford to miss out on "unlimited days", you might have to port out on Saturday or even on Friday to allow for the time taken at the other telco to port you out to get back to Amaysim? However if you can afford to allow a day or 2 of "phone free" days, then those starter kits you've got might just last you longer :)

Just port out and you'll be placed in a 'queue'. You can still use your old service and it should be processed the next business day.

    • But what if I've used up the 28 days on my starter pack?

For Telstra, Optus & Vodafone the prepaid service will remain active for 6 months if you don't recharge. I dunno about amaysim, but it won't cancel your service after 28 days.

        • Just read over the T&C's

If your UNLIMITED 7GB Plan is not renewed it will be cancelled. If your UNLIMITED 7GB Plan is cancelled for any reason you will be receiving the amaysim Service under the conditions of the amaysim As You Go Plan.
You are free to choose and activate the UNLIMITED 7GB Plan again as set out in clauses 3.1. and 3.2.

So that's cool, I'll just be put onto the 'As You Go' plan and because it's a prepaid service I'll only be able to recieve calls until I port.

@stickyfingers: Well if you have credit to make calls, you can also incur data charges, at AYG rates. Maybe you meant receive calls?

        • @greenpossum: Oops, fixed!

  • Porting is system automated only on a Sunday. Porting on a Sunday works if you follow measures I explained in another two posts, but its copy-pasted for you below.

    1) Before porting, call your current provider, and ask your DOB be updated to the backend porting system database, otherwise your port request will be rejected.

Personal details are are not automatically updated for porting out, and need to be manually actuated by an operator.

Internet connectivity will also be barred until midnight of that day. Ensure internet APN settings are correct according to your handset and carrier as specified on this informative website(apn-india.gishan.net). So step one must be done prior to 8pm, then internet will activate after midnight.
