Oh no. Same thing happened to my parents. I would recommend backing up your stuff and reformatting.

If you really don't want to do that, follow the guide here. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-securit…
I followed the instruction in my parents' case and managed to get rid of the malware but was still unable to get into the task manager at the end of it. Ended up doing a full OS reinstall.

    • Great work on helping out a fellow OzBargainer Livert, keep it up :)

      • Thanks :)

  • Oh thanks so much i clicked your link and got it done straight away! Restarted the computer and it was gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks sooo much :) How do the viruses get into everything?? Wow that had me stressed!

    • No worries. Did you end up getting your tv as well?

    • I would strongly suggest doing a full format and reinstallation of your Operating system ASAP.
Once infected with a virus you never know what other virus/malware/trojan horses/key-loggers etc that you have also.
These tend to hide themselves very well, remember that not all viruses announce themselves.
Most never let you know so they can continue to do their evil doings quietly as possible, so when one says hello then most certainly it or others has said come on down the coast is clear!
I wouldn't trust the PC until a full reformat and reinstallation has been done.
One done install Microsoft Security Essentials and do all updates (keep the updates set to automatic).

  • nope lol, not yet still looking! Figure there will b good deals as the end of the financial year sales approach :)

  • thanks for the advice macfanboy, but how the hec do u do that? Sounds very difficult!

    • Do you do what?

  • Try to go into safe mode of windows and use anit-virus software to scan could help

    • Could help what?
Regardless of what you do as I said above, if you are at all suspicious of being infected then you probably are and with a lot more !
Therefore my advice above still stands as the best advice.
I have spent many days trying to disinfect peoples windows computers only to have it come straight back or worse still hide lurking etc.
Best and quickest way is to reformat, reinstall, reinstall updates and install Microsoft Security Essentials. Then use an image copy program to make a backup (to save you a lot of time next time).

  • This bloody thing has taken the malware protection now!!!! What other programs can I run????

    • I would back up your stuff and just get help from friend who knows how to do a full reformat + OS reinstall. Damage done by malware like these are usually irreversible.
