New Meizu M3 announced

Hi guys,

After a bad experience with China phone (ulefone betouch2) I then bought myself a Meizu m2 note and shortly after went for a Meizu metal. Both phones from Meizu have been amazing, only downside is that not all 4g bands are there, but as I live in Sydney it's not too bad.

New m3 seems even better, with bigger battery and finger print. Price is $123 us for 2gb/16gb and $154 us for 3gb/32gb. This price just seem crazy, for such quality devices.
You don't get the marshmallow but still lollipop, but for the price it is quite decent.
So would you buy a Meizu at all? I am on love with it and the back button it's pretty awesome too.

  • How long have you had it?

For the price it does seems amazing

  • Meizu metal 3 months, I paid $200 Australian. It works very well, so I'm not going to upgrade to the new one.
Even finger print works like a charm.

    • Where did you buy it?

      No lag?

      • Actually I paid $240 off eBay. If I were you I would wait a bit more and get the M3 note as it seems better.
My phone is perfect no problem whatsoever and also imo it's better to have finger print in the front.

        • With the software can you completely remove and flash?

I'm worried Chinese might take my data

          @GameChanger:

You can flash the Metal, I have flashed with the beta ones off meizu website. They also update the software quite regularly. The phone I got had no garbage on it, but I still went on Meizu official website and installed the beta, just in case.

Some apps can´t be removed (the meizu ones). Also there is a wonderful app from Meizu called Music, where you can download/stream complete free music.

Have you used Xiaomi? Just asking because I'm using a Xiaomi now and I really like it. I have looked at Meizu in the past, and definitely wouldn't mind using one. Only thing is I haven't seen any particular standout deals for the Meizus and they don't seem to have as much developer support for rooting/installing custom ROMs.

    • I'm not familiar with Android, whats the advantage of custom roms? It can remove manufacturer software?

      • Yes, that is correct. Also it allows to move the apps to sd card. Unfortunately the Meizu metal it´s not rooted and I can´t move apps. Luckily all the other stuff can go to sd, but I do hope it will be rootable soon.

  • Meizu have always been good. I've been considering Meizu as a replacement to my aging Nexus. It'll be interesting to see if they're going to include support for Mediatek PumpExpress+ charging.

I swear Ulefone and Umi's twin as they're very good at lying about their specifications. Battery capacity in particular.

    • Got any specials for it Clear?

      • Presales are unstable. Closer to release maybe.

        • How about the Meizu metal? Will it drop in price

        • @GameChanger: Probably. I don't know for certain.

    • Ulefone is the worst! The screen cracked by itself after 3 days, it was overheating battery dying quickly and finger print not working. Luckily Gearbest replaced (I chose something else), but it was a long and sore process. Took me 3 months!

Very pleased with my m2 note, but you need to be fairly comfortable with ROMs etc.
It isn't necessarily going to be as you want out of the box.
But the hardware is high spec and quality.
My only reservation is the 5.5in screen is a bit large for one handed use.
I'm hoping that Apple releasing the smaller iphone will encourage a China phone to release high spec phones with smaller, but high denisty screens.

    • I find it still pretty good one handed as the back button is awesome. I am so used to it now it is hard to go back to something different.

      • Yeah, the hardware button is a huge usability improvement, especially for former apple users.
When I use my android tablet my muscle memory keeps my thumb looking for the button, but it only has software buttons that move around depending on orientation.

  • I had the Meizu MX2 a few years ago, no problems with it. Pretty good build quality for the price. Would definitely buy a new Meizu phone when it's time to upgrade.

  • Never try Meizu, Xiaomi and Huawei is my preferred choice if I switch to using Chinese phones, current using Samsung and LG phones.

I am using meizu m2 mini. Chose that for the 5'' screen over 5.5'' note. Took me a bit to setup and get used to "Flyme" android skin and the back button, but i love it now.
Gestures are cool feature and so is the free music download with their app.
    Battery is very good also.

    Thumbs up from me.

    P.S. paid $150 from aliexpress 16gb/2gb

    • Ah what app are you referring to? Kinda been looking for an app like that lol

      • Try Fildo

  • I think it might be exclusive to their flyme os. Its just called Music, comes preinstalled on the phone.

    • You are correct. A very good one anyone can have is Fildo (more songs but sometimes doesn't work as well)
