How Many of You Buy Online from Coles & Woolworths?

Hi All,

Just curious with the amount of deals that get posted with weekly specials etc.

Does anyone here actually buy online and get their things delivered? if so, is it a full shop? or just if you see an item or two that's a bargain for pickup or whatnot.

Do you get your meats / fruits / vegetables? or just mainly pantry foods?

I get my pantry stuff delivered to the coles click and collect lockers. You don't have to worry about parking and its much quicker than going into the shop.

    • Ooh Interesting - Don't think my coles has any of those lockers :(

They are at Coles express. There are a fair few in WA. Donno about other areas.

The other benefit is everything is refrigerated so all your drinks will be cold.

  • We do the click and collect as you can choose the store you collect it from (otherwise they select from some crap store which hardly has anything and they substitute or miss things out).

My wife orders online all the time - probably at least half of the groceries. Substituting has netted us some great bargains before (eg, order a roast with a guaranteed weight of 1kg, but get a 900g + an 850g one, order 2x400g frozen berries, but get 3x350g of a more expensive brand).

Getting it delivered may or may not be worth it, that depends on how busy you are and how far away the nearest click and collect is. For us, the nearest click and collect is 15min drive, so delivery for under $10 is probably worth it.

With Woolies, yes. With Coles, they'll supply what they have and charge you the actual weight.

  • I have been a lot lately because I like taking advantage of the near weekly save $10 of $100 woolworths codes posted on here. Also like it because I don't have to drag the kids around the shops I just go to counter and walk out again 5 mins later.

I mainly use woolworths for the discount codes and for the fact they don't price Jack most of their items like Coles does. I do full weekly shops for most items excluding meat as I buy that cheaper and better quality off a farm

    • Do you use Woolworths delivery saver plan? or just pay per basis if you're spending less than $150?

      • No I only do click and collect, woolworths is 5 minutes away and I refuse to pay extra for delivery and I'm usually under $150 as well

        • Ahh Understandable :)

  • Both myself & my girlfriend have been on crutches in the past at the same time. Backpack shopping is a right pain, so we ordered a few times from Woolworths. Even since we've got better, we've kept doing it that way.

We've used it for everything, and apart from the odd product that can't be supplied (prompt refunds) or where white grapes were supplied as red ones, or where they broke 8 eggs in a dozen, they've been excellent.

The only real complaint I have is that they use at least 50% more plastic bags than you normally would, but I assume it's all part of their picking process.

Okay interesting - thanks for the info :)

      • We've bought the delivery saver in the past, and it's good value if you order a little, quite often.

Otherwise, our weekly shops often tick over that $150 anyway, so it doesn't make much sense.

Update: Just ordered $170 worth of stuff on woolworths

first time buyer free delivery + $10 discount + $20 cash rewards

thanks for your input everyone :)

  • I have used Woolworths a couple of times but I've never used Coles.

I use Woolworths when I can get a better deal with online targeted offers than using other targeted offers instore. Woolworths have a minimum order of $30. I rarely spend over $50 at Woolworths in any given transaction. I use gift cards bought at a minimum of 5% discount. The online prices are the same as all instore items. I alwasy pick up so I can check the order straight away and resolve problems on the spot. I haven't ordered for a long time because I haven't gotten any decent deals for $30 or $50 purchases and the new Woolworths website won't work properly on my computer. I managed to place one order with the new system but it took many attempts to get it processed. Luckily on this occasion all goods were in stock. Refunds and substitutes can be a pain. There are plenty of Woolworths near me which have Click and Collect.

I don't use Coles for multiple reasons. The minimum order is $50 and most of the good deals have a target of $100 to get a decent 20% or more discount. Coles surcharge for many of their online items so the offer discounts are negated by this. The nearest Click and Collect Coles is more than 30 minutes drive from where I live. I don't want to pay for delivery and it is hard to get free delivery for orders under $100. I don't like the payment methods. Many flybuys targeted offers can't be combined with online orders and targeted offers. I always stack multiple flybuys offers when I shop at Coles. Coles reserve the right to change the amount of the final invoice from the estimate which makes the available payment methods even more complicated.

  • I don't have a car so when I do order some stuff I get them to bring lots of heavy shit like soft drinks and water. tend to order mostly pantry/frozen stuff. I've had a few occasions before where the wife has ordered stuff for a specific meal to cook that night, and then they run out of one of the main ingredients which really stuffs you around.

  • I live 60 minutes from Woolies so it is definitely worth the $0 cost. They are also generous with food from the deli by giving more than you paid.

  • I shop my entire shop online, I tend to go for Woolys, and tick substitute all, as my local shoppers always replace with same or better quality and I get charged no more, Cole totals are a gamble, they can end up slightly different than cart. I have found the best time to get delivery is between 2-6pm as they pack those orders in the morning when the shelves are stocked. Order delivery too early and they pack the night before meaning half your shop is out of stock on the shelf, and too late and your alcohol can't be delivered too, and the deli meat and fruits are a little more manhandled.

    Woolworths

    • Always end up with substantially more meat than you paid for. As mentioned above, Coles charge you for what is delivered.

    • Prices are the same online as in store. Coles are more expensive online.

  • I order some things (pantry items, cleaning products) from Woolies online, using a delivery saver. I am vegetarian so I don't buy meat from them and I avoid buying fresh fruit and veg from them like the plague so will rarely buy the odd single item but generally buy fruit and veg from the grocer in a separate shop. I also order from 2Brothers semi-regularly so I don't buy much from Woolies in the way of nuts or grains.

My experience with them has been super. I have decided that when I work full time, my free time is better spent doing things I enjoy than elbowing my way through the crowds at Woolies on the weekends. I agree with Carve2 though, the amount of plastic bags they use in an abomination.
