Worth buying Renault Scenic wagon?

I am after auto 7 seater around 6/7 K that hasn't done a lot of kms. I came accross 2 Renault Scenic 4 cyl 2.0 litre petrol. Around that price, Honda or Toyota would have a lot of Kms.

Suggestions please, haven't had much reviews online too for the car years.

  • Did anyone own before? experience?
  • Anything to be aware of Renaults? Reliability?
  • I don't drive that much, around 100 to 150 Kms per wk and occassional weekend trip.

Car # 1 specs:

  • 2007 Renault Scenic II
  • 97000 kms with 7 months rego,
  • Timing belt changed recently,
  • Dealer supplied so it should have 3 months warranty as it is less than 10 yrs old and within 160000 kms

Car # 2 specs:

  • 2008 Renault Scenic II
  • 120000 kms with 5 months rego,
  • Timing belt changed at 100000 kms.

Comments

  • How much?

  • both had timing belt, which is vital - do you have receipt for this work?

do they also have service history?

    which do you prefer?

    I wouldn't touch a Renault with a 10 foot pole.

There is a reason why Honda & Toyota at that price point all have high km's.

They both have earned a well deserved reputation for reliability.. therefore holding it's value even though having high km's, people will still buy them at a premium price

  • New renaults use Nissan parts. I don't know if that one does. I'd absolutely buy a second hand Renault from the last decade or so because they are quite nice cars and very good value second hand. Just check its been looked after and for any major issues before you buy.

With a verifiable service history, why not? As long as you are prepared for it to be worth next to nothing once the kms and years get up higher.

  • French cars traditionally required a lot of love, I.e. were unreliable and expensive to maintain.
As a result, second hand prices are low for what you get.
If you can live with the maintenance costs, they are great to drive.
I have heard quality has improved in recent years, but then again, I have heard that about French cars every 5 years for the last 30.

I drive one of these fish bowls every day it doent require maintenance or petrol its very legit ..

    • Nice, thx for your reply…how much mileage do u get from a full fuel tank?

N how is the handling n driving comfort?

      Thx

      • Id be guessing because i never pay much attention tho its an older model 5 seater not the suv version either where they took a normal scenic and added a heap of plastic to the outside and called it a 4wd or something

Its economical though and it drives really nothing special if you want something nice dont buy it …

  • Had a test drive of one them. Missing grunt big time. I have got Tiida (4 Cyl 1.8 litre) and it has more power than this 2 litre Scenic. I think I will have to give it a miss even though the history is clean. Not my cup of tea. Thanks homies.
