Cheap Motherboard for P4 and a cool running PSU

Hey all,

My motherboard for my secondary comp just died and it's running a LGA775 P4. Anyone have a suggestion on what to get that has inbuilt graphics and costs below 50 dollars.

  • I'm in the same boat. I have a socket 775 Pentium 4. I think we may be restricted to motherboards running the G31 chipset as that is generally the last and cheapest solution to support most Pentium 4s.

  • Yeah, CPUs are pretty indestructible (in normal use) while motherboards and RAM develop all kinds of faults. That's why I have a collection of old CPUs some of them with decent speeds.

    • prefer not to with computer parts, rather walk into a proper street front store

      • Your facing an uphill battle, the technology is so old that very few places would stock it any more or list it on their site.

  • I agree, especially if it comes to motherboards you generally want to buy from somewhere that can give you the best assistance should something go wrong (DoA etc). In any case lucky your Pentium 4 is 775 as opposed to 478 as 775 boards are still around and available.

Chances are I'm going to buy a cheap G31 (775) for my Pentium 4. if it works out I'll tell you (I also live in Sydney as well).

  • any thoughts about ditching the P4 and actually get a sub $500 setup? afterall, you are going to spend half (+decent psu) that money on old tech, while getting a new setup could give you more options and processing power?

if it's going to be just a web/fileserver… one of those cheap atom based ones could work, and saves energy too.
