2004 Honda Odyssey steering wheel controls

Hi Ozbargainers,

It's 2004 Honda Odyssey.

  • Are steering wheel controls meant to illuminate at night for the model? If yes, not illuminating on this one. Is it a bitch of a job to change the light behind the steering wheel?

  • At the LHS on steering wheel, there are Volume, Channel and Mode buttons and none of them seem to be working while at the RHS, cruise control buttons and they're working fine. Horn is also working fine on the steering wheel. Not sure what the issue and how to change stuff?

Thanks for your help in advance.

The first thing I'd do is check ALL of the fuses. Potential easy fix right there. An assortment of fuses costs only like 4 bucks.

Thanks @hashtagbargain. Will give it a go n let u know.

    • Sorry, don't have owners manual.

Are the fuses responsible for this located under the bonnet or under the dash?

  • So the buttons are working, but not illuminating?

Buttons on the other side illuminating, then it wont be a fuse.

Just go by feel and remember which button is where. You should be able to remember 3 buttons.

    • No illumination on all switches.

And only audio control switches on the steering not working, cruise is fine.

      • Gotcha.

Probably none illuminated then from the factory. Still probably not a fuse. Is the illumination control for the dash turned down too low if there is one?

Does it have the factory stereo? If not, it' possible the new unit doesn't support the buttons. If it is the factory unit, it could be an expensive exercise to trace where the problem is.
