Telstra/Amaysim Starter Packs Questions

Hi all,

I have a couple of questions regarding starter packs.

1) I recently purchased a couple of $10 Amaysim starter packs with $44.90 value - 7GB Plus. I've activate it as a prepaid and changed payment to BPay and auto renew off. What will happen if I finish up all of my included data (7gb) before expiry.

2) Do Telstra $30 starter kits need to be activated with a credit card like Amaysim or do you just need license or passport to activate the sim.

Thanks in advance!

    1) Nothing other than 'no more data'. Unlimited calls and text remain until the end of the month. If you decide to actually add sufficient credit for another month (by BPay), allow a few days prior for it to process.

    2) Licence or passport to activate, from memory.

  • Thanks for reply Tas, anyone else confirm?

    Hi OP, found answer to your first question on Amaysim's website:

    What happens if I use up my 7GB of included data?

    Are you Prepaid?
    If you're Prepaid (you pay for your amaysim service upfront), any excess data you use will be charged at 7.2c/MB once you've used up your included 7GB. You'll need some additional AS YOU GO credit in your account to cover these costs.
    You can also add a Data Pack to get more data at a cheaper rate once you've used 85% or more of your 1GB data allowance. Remember that our 1GB, 2.5GB and 4GB Data Packs last for 30 days, while our 10GB Data Pack lasts for 365 days.
    Follow these simple steps if you've set up online payment with a credit card, debit card or PayPal account:
    Text the Data Pack you want from your amaysim mobile number to 568 – that'll be 1GB, 2.5GB, 4GB or 10GB;
    Download our free amaysim app for Apple and Android devices;
    Or log in to My amaysim and head to ‘My Plan and Data'.
    Are you Postpaid?
    If you're Postpaid (you receive a monthly bill), and have your automatic data top-up settings switched on, you'll be billed $9.90 for a 1GB Data Pack (lasts for 30 days) if you use up your 7GB of included data before your plan expires. Alternatively, you can choose a larger data top-up amount or pay the excess data rate of 7.2c/MB. To do this, head to the Data Settings section of My amaysim.
    Check out our Help and Support article if you'd like more information on how additional data is charged on Postpaid.
    Regardless of whether you're Prepaid or Postpaid, if you add a Data Pack to your plan it won't expire when your plan renews. In fact, we'll use that data first so you know you're getting the most bang for your buck!

    • :) Further detail is good, but OP's scenario is pretty clearly- Prepaid, Starter Pack (no remaining credit for AYG), with likely an intent to port back-and-forth from one SIM (Telstra?? :) to some other offer - another (many of them) OzBargain/Amaysim one, or something else.

      Which is fine, for people who love a roundabout as much as OzBargainers seem to :)

  • Just an update, @Tas was correct. Once data ha run out, page won't load anymore. Lucky my sim expires tomorrow so port out and back it is!
