Phone Plans for a Family of 5

Trying to work out the best deal for a family of 5 who need mobile plans. We all have phones and need the following usage.
All need around 2Gigs of data but not keen to allow unlimited data access in case of bill shock.
One of us use around $700 worth of calls and calls to India
Two around $500
One around $250
The last around $100.

Options would be
OPtus family share data one on $50 plan and rest on $30 plan
Vodafone similar
Telstra prepaid, all on $30 plan with Sharing of credit or using cash back?
Vaya $20 for 4 of us and OPtus/vodafone for 1
TPG $10 plan for 6 months then change?

Would love any suggestions.
Cheers All.

  • Vodafone
    1X $45 Sim Only (24m)
    4X Shared $21 Sim only (24m)

All up you would have 12GB shared Data, Unlimited calls, 120 minutes of international calls and Unlimited calls to 10 countries (including India)across ALL numbers (as u can share your international call allowance on Vodafone)
    Total cost; $129 per month

Note with Vodafone even though it is 24m plan, if for any reason any of the numbers needed a new phone Vodafone lets you switch to a standard phone included plan with no penalty after 3 months.

  • HI, Thanks, That does sound like a nice plan at $26 each with unlimited calls and 12 gigs to share.
However would really hate to sign a 24month contract. Otherwise seems really good.

    • You can get the same plans month to month but price goes up
      1X $50
      4X Shared $30

You would get 10GB on the $50 though, so your GB total if you went MtM would be 14GB

total cost for month to month is $170 pm

  • Thinking of going telstra freedom PREPAID and sharing the credit around from our low users to high users in the family.
Could even use the cash back app to reduce cost by 50%.
Also this way the kids cant go over their base cost and risk bill shock,

If I got 5 x$30 plans. That would be $150 and with 50% cash back would be $75 per month. Seems pretty good any thoughts?

    • I already sent you the Vodafone "sharing" plan. Going on prepaid really limits how you call other people as you always have to worry about how much credits you have left and constantly recharging, especially for 5 people. Also, assuming that's the $30 plan you want to get from Optus, their data will be halved to 1.5GB from 3GB from 1st of May.

Using postpaid on the other hand, you don't need to worry about how much credit you have left, when you're gonna have to recharge as it's all done automatically. And those Vodafone plans allow you to restrict how much data each member can use, hence completely eliminate the risks of bill shock.

Anyway, good luck! It's all up to you. If you know anyone who would be interested I'd appreciate if you refer to me :)
