The Latest ‘Press-Club Address’ (by Pat Dodson)

In the past, I have always found the ‘Press Club Addresses’ very dull/overly-simplistic/self-serving (among other adjectives I could use), but I must say the one delivered by Pat Dodson really blew me away. I suppose I should add that I (unlike Mr Dodson) am a staunch ‘right-winger’, in case that disclosure is deemed important by some, and in case it helps to contextualize some of the following comments.

While I did not agree with absolutely everything Mr Dodson said, I was very moved by many of the opinions and ideas he articulated; partly because he delivered them so eloquently. The fact that he is such a good/frank public speaker makes what he has to say all the easier to digest. His wise words made me rethink quite a number of my preconceptions. It seems to me this guy is one of the best/smartest/most-genuine advocates the aboriginal people of Australia have. I sincerely hope this guy stays in politics and lives a long time, because I reckon by way of his mind/intelligence, eloquence, confidence and nous, he has the potential to do wonderful things for Australian aboriginals.

I could say much more, but doing so would really just be ‘parroting’ most of what Mr Dodson said himself. So I invite anyone interested in this topic to check out his ‘Press-club address’… which to my mind, is BY FAR the most interesting/potentially-productive ever to be delivered; at least in my experience!

Thank you, Mr Dodson.

  • Yes I can't say I've paid attention particuarly to Mr. Dodson but over the years I've had the occasion to listen to him, usually on Communist ABC Radio National Late Night Live but probably also on Communist ABC Radio National Counterpoint … pre-Vanstone as I cannot stand anything that woman does so she ruined Counterpoint.

But yes, he certainly seems like an intellectual more than a lawyer or career politician so that can't be bad right lel.

  • Indeed, I enjoyed his speech as well. I reckon he'll make an extraordinary senator. We need more of him to shine the light on indigenous affairs.
