Should I Buy This Car? Corolla 2010 for $7K with 191,000 KM

Hi All,

My car had an accident and insurance declare as written off. So I need a car within $7.5K which has fuel economy and can accommodate 2 adult and 2 children.

I was looking at Toyota Corolla.

Just needed people’s opinion on whether I should buy 2010 Corolla with 191,000 KM for $7K? Or anyone suggest me a better car.

Thanks for your opinion.

You can do much worse than a Corolla, they are very reliable cars and retain their value well. The mother in law has a manual 2000 Corolla that has done nearly 500,000kms and only needed new shocks and associated parts from usual wear and tear.

Make sure to get a top mechanic to give it a complete look over. Or do it yourself, checking the oil, state of rims and general car care, colour of exhaust, how well it starts, idling noise, give it a solid test drive check brakes, under load etc.

191,000km for a 5-6 year old car is way too much. I would only consider if it had consistent servicing every 6 months throughout it's life.

    • I agree.

No way I wouldn't. We bought a Kia cerato sedan 2014 with less than 20.000 for $10.000 a year ago. It works like a charm.

      Kia…..stops reading

  • It really depends on the car and the previous owner. I am currently trying to sell a Mitsubishi Lancer for under $4k with 217k km on the clock. I am very up front with the fact that the air conditioning does not work. Otherwise the car has been very reliable and has never broken down.

Have I had any interest in a good condition car (sans air con) for under $4k? None, zero, nada. I would suggest $7k for a standard car that has done 191k km is too much.

There is a huge glut of used cars out there sub $10k. Check out CarsGuide and CarSales. Be prepared to haggle and walk away, as sellers are generally pretty keen to get rid of their old vehicles.

  • I would look at these:

With a high kilometres stick to mid size cars in my opinion. Toyota Camry I reckon should be your number one choice for a family car. If well taken care of they will keep going. Corollas are of course good too of course but a bit smaller.

  • Man Seeking Advice #2: Rabbi, should I buy a Chrysler?
Rabbi Hyman Krustofski: Could you rephrase that as an ethical question?
Man Seeking Advice #2: Um… is it right to buy a Chrysler?
Rabbi Hyman Krustofski: Oh, yes. For great is the car with power steering and dyna-flow suspension.
