New UBER Laws and Fines (QLD) - Riders and Drivers Discussion

I am a very new UBER Driver. the law passed to fine UBER drivers $2356.00 now has been had me worried.
Those who has been there for a while and copped up a fine of the $1400.00 odd, please can you tell me how the whole thing works and does UBER pay it or the driver. I heard UBER does but not sure though.
Also, did you all think UBER should be illegal. as far as the reviews i have heard from passengers it is a win win for both drivers and Passengers.

What do you think??

Thanks for reading and appreciate the comments and ………….

  • Fined for what exactly…? I haven't been checking but I know they apparently passed another law to have UBER drivers in NSW to get yet another certification if they wanted to drive for UBER

    • apparently UBER has never been legal in QLD and hence the fine

      • My bad, thought that this was UBER in Australia.

  • +4

Just took an uber in QLD. He said the fine has increased but nobody cared and nobody paid. Basically what happens is the driver report the fine to Uber, Uber then contest it in court. It never gets resolved because it takes money to go to court for the government. So nothing happens.

Disclaimer: I was told this during a 10 minutes trip with one driver only, talk to your fellow drivers to be sure.

  • As above, Uber maintain what they are doing is 100% legal and will back you if you are fined. However it would obviously be a pain the butt if you were fined and all the paperwork/time required
